Yup pretty much. That jump-in can be slightly accelerated/decelerated horizontally in flight, and this one was intended as a crossup so it landed on back half of Youmu which would normally result in a hit because of wrong blocking direction, but she used 6k damage parry super which would normally result in DEATH, however it only hits in front of her so she only avoided being hit but failed to counterattack.

I actually really like it, if you know what you are doing you can trivialize some fights by breaking the cards before they have chance to become an issue, and timing your attacks right is very rewarding. It's also thanks to spellbreak AoCF is much better than ULiL.

Naah, Tenshi's song is literally best in all fightans, better than half of mainline stage 6 boss tracks and is on par with other A-tier mainline tracks. It nails what makes a good touhou fight and Tenshi's fight feels as engaging as mainline final bosses, which I can't really say about other's fights and corresponding arrangements/tracks.

It's a pre-battle theme so you can barely hear it in-game, unless you're specifically stalling dialogue you won't hear even half of it so it's hard to count it, but yeah it's cool no doubt. Still not cool enough to carry whole game on its own.

I tried both IaMP and Soku on Hard and they're both bullshit.
The former's story mode just ends once you reach Yukari, Youmu, Patchy, Yuyuko, and Remilia. Their spellcards are simply broken on Hard.
For the latter the spellbreak mechanic means spamming a single attack ad nauseum until spellbreak happens, instead of having the freedom to use any and all abilities as in SWR. Also the increased damage from spellcards make it such a slog to play.

With IaMP I agree it clearly wasn't tested well on higher difficulties especially with Yukari and Remi they both have absolutly bs 1HKO attacks.
With Soku... eeeh idk I've beaten all 3 story modes on lunatic and I had a lot of fun. Yeah the most effective strategies is to use couple of attacks that are tested to do a lot of break damage and time them right but I like that part of the game actually.
I said it before and I'm gonna say it again - if you treat 2hu fightan as megaman-style boss rush where you have to find specific weakness of each enemy/card it's much more enjoyable than trying to play it as a fighting game.

I mean that's how it intends to be, but imo it doesn't feel as enjoyable especially on higher difficulties. It was fine on Normal really, and I had a lot of fun doing them, but Hard (and I assume Lunatic would be worse) makes playing the Story feel like a chore. Maybe if I condition myself to look at it that way exclusively then it won't be as painful as it is.
I finished SWR Hard a very long time ago, and I don't remember it being this sucky. Haven't tried HM, ULiL, or AoCF Hard yet, but I hope it isn't this bad.

When I had those reservations 1) /v/hu was alive 2) I didn't like the idea of splitting in it's core 2) they rangebanned my country so I had to use tor to post. Now however /v/hu is dead, split has already happened and cannot be reversed, and they made .se domain that works fine. Main reason I post there of course is lack of choice after /v/hu's death, they have at least something of worth, /diap/ has none. Hisoutensoku is unironically a really good fighting game with some mechanics/design choices that should be in every fighting game, especially modern ones.
>Easy to pick up and play, but favors better players heavily

Well as you know, typically in most fighting games, you can block high or low, and if you wrongblock a move, that is block a low move high or a high move low, you will get hit as if you weren't blocking at all.

In Hisoutensoku, if you wrongblock a move, you don't get hit instantly, instead it essentially does guard damage instead, and causes the move to be a lot more advantageous (usually plus).

What this means is that instead of being opened up the moment you wrong block something, you have to typically wrong block multiple attacks in a row to get guardcrushed and actually get opened up. This also means that both players will react differently depending on whether a move is right/wrong blocked, as you will obviously react differently depending on whether a move is +0 on block or +5 for example.

The reason why I think this is a good design choice is because many modern fighting games have power crept high/low mixups to an insane degree over time. Not only in terms of reward (Ex. Modern fighting games giving you full combos off of overheads rather than just the overhead and that's it or maybe a simple confirm), but also in terms of execution.
Many new fighting games are trying to be more beginner friendly, and that's ok, but often they do this by trying to make pressuring opponents as easy as possible. High/low mixups in modern fighting games are often extremely easy to do and extremely difficult to deal with, and this combined with more rewarding hits means games are becoming slugfests on any skill level where a player being forced to block will immediately be subjected to a super easy 1 or 2 button 50/50 unreactable mixup which takes a huge chunk of their life no matter what hits (While in the past if the player used a high attack it would be much less rewarding than the low attack for example)

Soku's system would solve these problems. Not only does it make blocking safer, but it also requires more skill from the aggressor to open up the opponent.

Something really cool about Soku's guard system too is that you can guard crush without any high/lows to begin with, but there's a lot of creativity because of it. For example you can try to guard crush your opponent with zero wrong blocks, but that's really hard and usually easy to escape. You can try to guard crush with 4 wrong blocks and that'd be really easy, but what's the chance you'll actually get 4 wrong blocks? It means both the aggressor and defender actually have to think about what they're doing because the one pressuring will have to rethink their plans on the spot based on how their opponent high/low locks.

I mean I sort of agree with you but the conclusion you came to is pretty questionable.
First off I do want to state that Hisoutensoku has border escape, which is a defensive option that you can do when blocking moves and is a huge part of gameplay, and notably only works on right block.

I think defending players having defensive options when blocking is a good idea, but usually stuff like bursts (Being able to attack/break out of getting hit)are unnecessary. I think that's a bandaid fix from games often getting so much powercreep on combo length/power that it feels like a necessity to add in, and usually bursts become a massive centralizing mechanic. I think a far better solution is just to keep combos short and low damage to begin with as that keeps gameplay moving, reduces lab time, and keeps both players active.

That said in the IaMP clip I'm pretty sure the Alice player had many spots to escape, they just didn't take them and that's why it looks like they're just getting beat on for 30 seconds straight. It's a lot easier to spot those in hindsight obviously but there were several moments where they could have done something in that clip.
