I'm playing through the 3ds games right now and I can see the appeal of a more open jrpg esq fire emblem that is looser on exp, items and skills, it lets people grow monster units if they want too, but I really hope the next fe game is more tight on resources, I like when your given a finite amount of stuff and have to persevere through the challenges each chapter throws at you with just the preparation menu/tellius base camp in between each chapter. plus I already have a game for when I want to spend hours grinding a character and caping their stats and nuking the map, its disgaea 3 (the vita version)

Engage also has this style of DLC, the DLC emblems maps are like this. Tiki's map is quite hard if you do it immediately. The problem is Tiki immediately starts to trivialise the game, her map is great for training Jean/Anna, she gives your characters an extra health bar, and she gives you growth bonuses.

Tiki actually makes Engage slightly harder by trapping noobs into wasting their SP on a meme skill. Thank you for your service, Chikkers.

Edelgard's paralogue is an asset swap of Hilda's. CF itself is extremely rushed for time. It only has one pre-rendered cutscene while the others have like four, for example.

I'll be the first engage fan to tell you that alear's design is obnoxious and I just got used to it. I like the game because it hits just the right amount of unit customization I like in these games. It's one of my favorite RPGs ever made in general, pretty much only being lowered on the ladder by having a generic story (which is true of every fire emblem).
Honestly out of the ones I played I think I'd call Awakening the least generic plot in the series just because of the time travel nonsense and robin's whole situation. Haven't played it recently enough to know if I'd call it good, but I find that to be an odd observation and want to be wrong about it.

It's kinda more decent early on than it gets credit for because the enemies don't get strong too quickly. They're seriously bad despite their fearsome reputation - basically big balls of HP that hit like a truck, but no stats in anything else. So it feels like they have some bite and the game is vaguely player phase centric. But stat inflation goes through the roof in Valm and it's full lowman godmode or bust.

You know I'm shocked that 3H never got the same level of supplementary/bonus content that Awakening or Fates got. It never got a proper full artbook. It only got 1 drama CD when it could have easily had multiple. It didn't get any of the 4koma/comic anthology books like Fateswakening did. Or a manga like Engage did. Would have loved to see a comic anthology that's canon to the games and not just played for gags. Would be cool to have seen a chapter of Shamir going on a recon/assassination mission for the church and only barely escaping and we see her inner thoughts/motivations during it. Obviously she's working for the church during the game but how "I'm laying my life down for this cause" is she, since she fucks off and leaves during the time skip in certain routes. Would love to get more info on that.

FE4 had that too. Post-Kaga FE ossified in strange places. Just completed CF NG maddening, gotta say, the final fight was way better than VW's. I remember I mapped out a whole sequence of attacks against Nemesis, only for Claude to hit a crit and finish him off and he was only the 3rd action on my sequence. Against Rhea, I was down to my second last action, if Edelgard didn't crit her Raging Storm, I would definitely be losing some units on the next phase.

I enjoyed CF more than VW, from a gameplay perspective. Let's not talk about the plot, CF's plot is a hot mess. AM is still the best route, haven't cleared that on Maddening though, as it was the first route I played. Now, time for a break before trying SS.

It's the best evidence that IS only cared about Conquest, and used the excuse that Birthright is "the easy one" to fill it with castoff maps. It's an earlygame map in scale (literally Conquest 9, with the front and sides cut off), so it's too small to populate it with real enemies.
