Disciples has a new game with a demo and it kind of just looks like HoMM. What's going on with that series anyway? I've seen it around but I don't know anything about it.

not specifically for THIS nextfest, but Motorslice felt extremely underwhelming, the controls feels both like you're on ice and walking on glue, the momentum is floaty as fuck, so navigating the levels feels like a chore instead of feeling like some snappy and fast parkour the game promotes and looks like in the video
the boss is also extremely on rail and takes literally 0 skills to defeat

On the contrary, I always thought the gameplay would be janky just like the first trailers shown, but the main character turned out to be prettier than I thought and her animations and reactions were charming (the gory is a nice touch)
The game feeling reminded me of a very floaty version of Mirror's Edge with touches of Shadows of the Colossus. I never had any expectations about a deep the platforming, and when I played the demo, my impression was positive, fun to play and an unmissable eye candy

After Disciples 3 in 2009 they was a long period of nothing before Disciples: Liberation came out in 2021. Unlike the previous game it's was more of rpg with homm style turn-based combat where you play as a chick with side-cut. The upcoming game, Domination, appears to be the direct sequel to it. Personal I didn't care for Liberation as well as I don't care for Domination.

Well I'm not biased against indie because i do know of at least one project that looks promising that few people know about, that's not Silverfish. It's just that it's a hard thing to develop and I don't think you can later down the tracks just put A-Life in. These decisions need to be at the centre of development and in the plans for whatever state the game is currently in. All of its' design should have this factional wars system in mind, the world AI system in mind from the start. If that wasn't at the start of the plans then it's not going to be significant later. Rather it will be an afterthought and perhaps lacking any depth. Silverfish's system isn't exactly amazing, but it was there in its earliest state. It didn't come later.

I played the demo for it for a while. Wanted to like it but there was just a lot of things that just annoyed me.
The crafting system is completely reliant on gasoline, which is a random spawn, and in my case it never appeared, so I couldn't make anything to see what the demo even had. Sure I could have spent more time scavenging but the game is almost geared against that with how short the days are, you have about five fucking minutes of sunlight before it gets pitch black, so you have to speedrun through all the buildings and locations, which isn't what comes to my mind when I think of s.t.a.l.k.e.r.
Maybe it's better in co-op, but 'fun with friends' isn't exactly high praise.

I may be too good at these kinds of games. Found an infinite almost instantly. Works on every enemy in the demo.
Nice to see games being made like this but pretty meh demo even ignoring this. Skill cooldowns are too long to be let them really add much to the mashing and the barrier system literally just means you hold a button before you can interact meaningfully with enemies.
Parry feels pointless. It doesn't reward you any more than a dodge, but its harder to do. So why bother? Especially when most enemies whiff or get stunlocked if you just mash Y and cancel the last hit

Like others have mentioned, Motorslice and to a more limited extent Homura Hime
First one because I overall came out of it unimpressed + had about 5 instances where the movement broke and jumping would nullify all my horizontal velocity. Also I don't like the main character and they push her into your face a lot so that's a big turn off.
Homura Hime because it lacked some pretty basic settings but also because it felt a bit janky here and there, though the boss fight at the end was great so I'm still looking forward to it

You only get a snippet of the combat, but it's real time and one of the MCs has 3 tools for combat right at the beginning, and that's a major plus for me.

the attached video shows what happens when you fail a puzzle as the second MC of the demo. I was laughing my ass off for a solid minute because of the fact that a clapping sound effect plays for a few seconds right after you die this way (the dialogue, or rather monologues, are also very cheesy almost poorly written)

Also, looking over the dev's facebook page shows that they've been trying to get this one released since 2022. I wonder what happened for them to only get a "release date" of Q4 2025, after so long

Oh yeah, I actually played the demo. Even before the fest so that's why I forgot about it. It's,pretty good. I also played the dev previous game, An English Haunting, It's has rather easy puzzles but interesting story with lot of references to 20th century horror stories and historical mystic figures. Can recommend.

I thought I would like Hell Maiden but anon in threads days ago was right when he said being a vampire survivor clone would ruin it. This is the only one I've played besides VS and this art in this style of game is wasted; it kind of sucks balls. Also isn't it a bit late to be releasing a VS clone? A Hades like game would be immense. My lazy suggestions would be shifting the gameplay so that you manually fire attacks (1-4 keys) but with downsides would distinguish it some. Giving enemies directional spawning, spiral spawning, other generic pattern fake behaviors like that would help as well. The preview video gave the impression you could cast cards in-game like Lost Kingdom or Cardcaptors but you're actually merely collecting them like any other VS clones powerups. I imagined summoning hellfire zones with cards to manage mobs and other tactical effects like that. Overall very disappointing

Hades-like aren't exactly a thing because Hades is successful mostly because it's extremely well made, Hades 2 is just improved Hades and it still didn't do all that amazing.
I will say that the devs probably should've tried something else, though. I don't think the VS clone audience is all that interested in anime games, most of them will probably just write it off as "cringe" without even trying it.
I still plan to support it just because I'm glad they moved on from RPGmaker VNs.
