I unironically like that, it makes it easier for me to swallow the disconnect between IRL and the game world. Just embrace the fact that its a "pretend" world in the lore, also explains shit like why you're 30 y/o protagonist who's been living in the world his entire life is "What is this place? What's going on here?"

Depends on the setting and set-up. If it's the twist at the end then yeah it's lame but if it's established that the characters are trapped in it and need to escape then it can work

Getting into a piece of fiction is all about "believing", in some part of your mind, that the fictional word is real
It doesn't mean actually being convinced it IS reality, but suspending your disbelief is being able to get yourself to do so
