This was honestly the last time I was actually REALLY hype for a game release
I pre-ordered, took all night to install it, and brought my laptop to school so I could show everyone and play it all day.
We all just skipped classes and played it on my laptop in the library.

No traits
Higher rank of perks require absurd high levels
Low starting special so you have to essentially take intensive training
No skills so leveling is just take a perk
So if you want to specialize in something you can because you need like level 46 to max out the perk for your build so you end up taking 20 levels worth of the most boring perk in 3/nc instead as filler and thats it.
Los amount of side quests with any actual meat to them, a lot of them is just a simple talk to someone or kill a random raider, and radiant quests
A bad main quest you ignore like every bethsedia game
So all you end up doing is going into generic buildings and caves to kill unnamed raiders and ghouls ovsr and over for a randomly generated quest for really boring diablo loot like +10% damage increase to ghouls during night time pants and levels that end up only giving you the most boring perk in 3/nv over and over and over

I suggest you just play fallout 4 again. This is the type of shit I thought on launch and it’s dead wrong. Especially the world design. For instance the way a series of dungeons will connect via rail line in a sensible way, you will get the train station wreckage, the quarry, the depot, and tracks along the way that will have individual cabs. That all provide different types of encounters and fit the world in a logical way.

The verticality is much better than any Bethesda game, especially with how different mini “dungeons” like apartments will weave in between the overworld. Speaking of which, they also took the care for some of these individual overworld outposts that have say the loot at the top, when you reach the top and take the final staircase it will directly signpost the largest dungeon in the area as a landmark (which is both art design and game design) and even the shortcut down will make logical sense. Unlike a game like Skyrim where the circuit shortcut is expected, in fallout 4 it’s much more diegetic.

There’s also easter eggs and mini stories with each camp. Like all separate raider groups individually dispose of their liquor bottles in different ways. There’s a genuine thought into how the world and dungeons are made.

For instance, another dungeon I recently cleared had another large verticals component that circled a large shaft. It was a raider camp and many of the small mooks had missiles. I thought it was weird as fuck they had it indoors. Then you get to the bottom (you have to jump there is no ramp) and you see why, because it was a death arena where they threw people to fight a death claw, while they are spectators above. And this was again signposted earlier in the dungeon with all the unusually large amount spare corpses.

A well made Bethesda-loop game, especially with modding support, is a literal infinite everything game.

After having played through 3 or 4 different (mostly vanilla) playthroughs i noticed these fatal flaws:

Enemies scale with you (puke emoji)
Even in the anniversary edition, you are limited to just one follower (low iq mistake by everyone involved)
You cannot just marry anyone (putting obvious limitations on certain npcs)
You cannot grind reputation with bandits are other hostile factions.

it only really becomes an issue if you decide to powerlevel something since a lot of skill trees give you very little advantage for the XP you get from it
