Why does Delita turn on Ramza here? Ramza said nothing to aggro him. I don't get it.

Its not specifically Ramza he wants to attack, though he DOES threaten him in his anger. He's angry at the family because his brother directly gave the order to shoot anyway even though Teta was in the way. It was this moment that Delita decided he couldn't trust anyone who was noble or had more authority than him. It's the catalyst for why he decides he can never be happy until he's the man at the very top.

But it makes no sense. Some guy Delita hates says Ramza, his friend, is using him, despite no evidence to support it. Delita immediately 180s and turns on his friend for reasons.

It does. He just watched Zalbaag order his sister's death. Dycedarg never intended to save her. Zalbaag never intended to save her. No matter what Barbabeth said, they were never family. What is he supposed to just wait for Ramza to decide to screw him over when it becomes convenient? Obviously we as players know Ramza would never harm Delita or Teitra but in his anger Delita saw all nobles as the same. And Argath twisting the knife just makes it worse

He's furious at the nobility and the inequality of Ivalice and how it just got his little sister killed. In his blind rage he's including Ramza and the rest of his adoptive family in that. He'd probably have even shouted at Alma at this point.

So basically he's completely snapped. He never actually attacked Ramza though, and settles down a bit after he kills Algus. He was just really fucking mad at everything in the heat of the moment and didn't have the patience to reassure Ramza's vacillating whiny ass while his sister bled out

That wasn't in response to what Algus said. Delita does not care at all what Algus thinks right then. Delita is just angry. If anything, it's more along the lines of:
>Algus: You use Delita too
>Ramza: Aw gee that's not true. We're buddies, right, Delita?
>Delita: FUCK OFF!! I'LL KILL EVERYONE AAAAAAHHHH

Barbaneth adopted them. He enrolled Delita into the knight's academy as a Squire. Even if you make the argument that Delita was a commoner with no control over his own destiny, it was a noble that put him there in the first place. Reason always takes the backseat during moments of high stress and emotion (like watching the brother of your childhood friend give the order to have your sister killed despite earlier posturing of being "like family") You're trying to consider reason in a scenario where there isn't any.

But even then, Delita is still right in his anger. It was Ramza's brother who gave the order, but it was also Ramza who chose to absolve himself of agency in the entire scenario. Ramza chose to sit by and wait like his brothers told him to when the true ideals of a knight that his father lived by should have pushed him to agency and act to save her immediately, and it was Ramza who chose to let Argath sit by despite the overabundance of red flags that showed that he was bad news. Even Ramza knew there was some level of blame on his shoulders, that's the reason why he left his house and the akadamy to live as a mercenary to begin with. Only when it was too late with Teitra dead and his friendship with Delita fractured (and also the belief that Delita is also dead at the start of the game) that he realized he did have agency in that scenario but chose not to act on it.

I do not recall a conversation prior to Ft. Zeakden where Delita told Ramza that he didn't trust him.

The last heart-to-heart talk they had before chasing after Teta's kidnappers was the one at Mandalia Plains. Where Delita reflects on what Algus said about his birth and station. Then Ramza tries to reassure him saying that if he can do anything if he tries hard enough, but Delita brushes it off, knowing that's not how things really work. Regardless he still shares a close bond with Ramza, and they play the reed flute together like their dad taught them to.

But between their encounters with the Death Corps, Miluda's death, what Wiegraf said, and now Teta getting shot? It's definitely not about Ramza specifically right there, it's the whole world he's mad at.

>>723321535
Delita, in spite of being raised by the Sword Saint like his own child, was still little more than a glorified retainer to House Beoulve. And he knew that. At best he would always be Ramza's second, his own success or otherwise tied to Ramza's career.

Is that so? I thought it was stated in the manual that Delita enacted reforms and lead Ivalice into an age of prosperity or some such. It gave me the impression that though Delita personally lost, the kingdom itself benefited greatly

I always thought of it as being sort of half reflex and half deliberate action.

Delita's long term plan was to take advantage of the chaos and become the absolute ruler of Ivalice. But being King-consort by marriage to Ovelia isn't *quite* there. I believe that Delita DID love Ovelia by that point, so I think he was conflicted about carrying out his plans to the end. Removing that final thread of the Atkascha bloodline would cement his position entirely, but he kept hesitating.

Ovelia attacking him removed that hesitation just long enough but he immediately regretted it afterward

I love Ramza but that conversation kind of highlights how naive to the point of being offensive Ramza is. "Just pull yourself up by your bootstraps bro." It does not matter how hard Delita tries or how many battles he wins or what a good boy he is. He was never going to gain the power to raise armies or change anything on a large scale just by trying really hard. Only Ramza can do that and that's because his last name is Beoulve. The fact Ramza had the gall to even say that shows how disconnected he was to Delita's plight.

Even FFT:A was shit. It's a shame they didn't immediately hit the ground running with a second game. Just like with bands, the product is a sum of all parts including the time period. An IP or franchise is more or less meaningless especially as it becomes a ship of theseus. Nothing wrong with this though, everyone does what they can because they cannot do everything. Especially Delita who climbed out of dirt.
And no he wasn't just like the nobles he was trying to defeat, the problem with the nobles wasn't that they were backstabbing cunts, it was that they couldn't even maintain the fucking kingdom. And they weren't even that good at being backstabbing cunts either since a FUCKING PEASANT beat them at that too.

It's actually pretty hillarious how often it crops up. Like

>Reading about the Spanish Armada and how the English completely decimated it
>Turns out there was an English counter Armada sent to Spain in response
>Have never even heard about this, look into it
>An even worse disaster, lost even more ships, more men and gained nothing
>But England had the best propoganda corps in the world
>So the nobles, the military and the Queen all spun it as a victory
>To pay for their staggering losses they just didn't pay any of the soldiers

Perfect example of why the quote "History is written by the winners" and "History is written by the historians" are both wrong. "History is written by whoever has the best propoganda" seems about right. The idea of the Spanish Armada still exists in our collective consciousness today, but I have never even heard of the English Armada, nor that it was a catastrophic failure.

Vagrant Story was pretty okay. It wasn't great but it was ambitious and interesting and (surprisingly) it was less indulgent with the kind of nonsense tropes he likes. It all turned into EVIL CHURCH and Demons at the end, since that's the only way he has ever known to escalate a conflict in every one of his stories, but yeah, it was pretty okay.

I'd really struggle to think of anything else he's done since that's even partially good. Lemme check his works to verify that.

FFTA: Maybe the exception, this was fun. He didn't write it though.
FF12: Garbage.
MadWorld: Didn't play, did anyone play?
TO-LUCT: I didn't play this, maybe this is an exception, people seem to love TO.
Crimson Shroud: Didn't play, did anyone play?
Terra Battle: Didn't play, did anyone play?

Nigger, the game explicitly shows you him going through existential moral issues about him helping nobles chase down peasants and whether he was on the "right side" of everything that was happening.
Him seeing his sister get shot by the most pompous noble broke him.
He was distressed, pissed, and grieving. That's often what people do in those situations, they lash out even at friends and family who are trying to help. It's not rational, but that's partly the point. He's being driven by emotions.
The fact Delita is later happy to see Ramza again shows that he doesn't actually hate him.

To be fair, they were both fuckin kids, and Zalbag had never shown himself to be that callous before. Delita was emotional, and Ramza wasn't the passenger to his life he was acting as, neither of them were fully in the right, but also acted in completely understandable ways. NTA but FFTA let you bullshit most of the game if you know how. For example: Viera have the Assassin class. Assassins have a skill that inflicts instant Death on an enemy unit. Obviously this is balanced by it being horribly inaccurate... right? Well Archers have a skill called Concentrate which boosts the accuracy of EVERYTHING. And if for some reason the enemy is immune to Death or it's against the law, then you can Petrify them too.

He despises commoners trying to rise up because they're the only people he's still above in the social hierarchy. It's pretty much all he has left that makes him feel like a real blueblood, and without that he'd be nothing.

But here's the thing: The world doesn't revolve around Ramza and whether or not he means well does not fucking matter. This happens a lot in a real life.
