Absolutely nothing in this post has anything to do with what we're talking about, you're just making generalised statements as if you can compare something like Xenoblade X, GTA and Pokemon as if they all play and progress the same just because they're open world. I mean you're saying
>it's only like that to pad out the game!
But very few games don't have a means of locomotion that can get you across the map in no time so what's the padding? The fact you have side quest? Because that's not an open world exclusive thing and in the case of pokemon are you considering catching, the point of the genre, padding too?
>because the exploration becomes tedious like you're going through a checklist before moving onto the next area,
Anon, that's literally every single game regardless of being open world. Especially for action games like say DMC or Bayo where they can have hidden challenges in just about every nook and cranny on a map that affect your ranking.
>yes and games have been trendchasing after dark souls for much longer than that.
Ah yes, monster hunter and kingdom hearts, the most famous souls games that started the "trend".
Again, rolling is the most common way of doing it. It's not trend chasing souls, you're just too young to know of any games that existed before souls that had it.
