I have the issue where I can see that devs are most likely simply being taught to make the female characters less attractive to "combat male gaze", but I just hate the dichotomy.
I'm an autistic strategy gamer, I don't fucking care how my characters in videogames look like and while Stellar Blade for instance isn't that kind of problem the company that made it is. Gacha games sell gambling and f2p skinnerbox to nerdy teenage boys by filling their games with sometimes quite overtly erotic anime girls. There's that ad of one of them where a fat boy sits down alone during birthday party and it's implied he masturbates while playing this sewage, you know which one I'm talking about. Nobody ever talks about the gameplay in these games for some reason either, really makes you think almost as if some elements of their monetisation get in the way of enjoying it.
As such we have this sad dichotomy of you're either team eunuch or team coomer. Team eunuch lets women walk all over them, team coomer gets hyped for some of the most predatory business practices you can imagine just because of anime T&A. Obviously team eunuch is more despicable, but team coomer isn't exactly great either.
