This game is awesome. I played 1 before and 2 is just 10x better. It is like being on a real adventure. The world is charming. Some battles were difficult for me, because I'm not into stat tinkering. It wasn't necessary and I brute forced my way through. Loved the puzzles, riddles and dungeons. I have no complaints about this game and I wouldn't want to change a thing.

I've only played Grimrock 1/2, but that you represent a party instead of a single character seems like a pretty superficial aspect of it to me. You could have mostly the same gameplay as a single character with a lot of abilities.
Any games similar enough to Grimrock (story light, open exploration, dense dungeons with lots of puzzles and secrets, not turn-based but not a straight action RPG either) but that don't get recommended as similar because they aren't "blobbers"?

>single character
No. This way, one of your characters could die/be injured etc. denying you his abilities. It's better with a party.

Bossfights were pretty bad in both Grimrocks. The last, ultimate boss, the super powerful megawizard demigod guy? You cornerpeek him over and over and that's the fight.

And the cube in the first game being the super evil corrupting power was just very stupid. Oh no he's gonna... Roll over you. Slowly...

I didn't imply it would be better without the party mechanic.
Just that it's actually a pretty superficial part of the game as compared to other things, but when you ask for similar games all you're recommended is games in that narrow sub-genre.
Hypothetically I'd be much more interested in a game with Grimrock 2's world/dungeon design, that plays mostly the same but minus the party mechanic (again, not implying that would be better), than something like Starcrawlers that to me has very little that's good about Grimrock 2.
>No. This way, one of your characters could die/be injured etc. denying you his abilities. It's better with a party.
Never played a game where wounds deny abilities?
Now I'm curious whether a game mechanically identical to blobbers but with a different thematic representation than a party would be recognized as such.

The levels are great, I loved exploring them. The builds/stats are pretty decent too, the races and food are fun. The actual combat is kinda boring/easy, circle strafing destroys nearly everything. I know that's often the case for blobbers, but I would've liked to see something different.

Currently trying out the Final Adventure mod and it feels…slightly better?
>secrets don’t rely too much on finding tiny buttons on wall
>skills/traits feel reasonably important making you think more when creating characters
>pseudo towns/hubs
>world is semi-open
>more verticality even in the same map
My only complaint is the author puts too many scripted enemies who stand still until you get near a corner before jumping out to get you. And some fights are unfair by pitching you against multiple enemies in a small room so you can’t dance
