The killer7 has better damage than the Broken butterfly as soon as it's available to buy, and it outpaces the broken butterfly throughout the game for significantly less money even factoring in the fact that you get the BB for free.
The broken butterfly only out preforms the k7 until the very last merchant making it a better choice for 1 fight.
After that you get to new game plus and have access to the handcannon immediately witch is better than both in terms of damage/dps.

Killer7.

While I love the Broken Butterfly, the style and extra damage are beautiful, you're already going to fuck anything you use it on. Killer7's higher rate of fire means you can fuck bosses hard, then duck and weave to avoid damage.

I was originally a broken butterfly guy but eventually I switched over to the Killer 7 because of the iconography of the weapon. I still love both but like the Killer7 just a bit more.

recently beat the remake, so I've no idea if it's different in the original.
the butterfly felt bad the few times I used it, but the killer 7 felt way more impactful, but I only used it a few times, and that was mostly on the final boss.
The remake doesn't give enough ammo for it and most of the time I would rather be making shotgun ammo or rifle ammo as ranged attacks felt more common than times I needed to punch through something with a magnum. It cost way too much gunpowder to make the ammo type. As far as I've been told, you could buy ammo in the original RE4, so maybe it's better, but in the remake it costs way too much gunpowder to bother crafting. I recall having more magnum ammo in Re2/3 remakes.
I ended up using the initial pistol and the riot shotgun for most things. the knife upgrade was also extremely valuable.
TL:DR
Killer7 but both are a bit of a waste or a resource trap, at least in the re4 remake that is how they felt.

I noticed that I only max out the Broken Butterfly after U3 and Krauzer fights, the only ones where I actually use a magnum, so is just better to carry around the Killer 7. If for some reason I decide to do a New Game+ run for fun, I sell the Killer 7 and buy a maxed out Broken Butterfly.

I don't know shit about guns. What makes magnums so much stronger than regular guns. More gunpowder in the bullet? Couldn't you just put a magnum bullet in a regular ass handgun? Why would the shape of the metal tube (The gun itself) influence how powerful the bullet is?

You needed to say "other revolvers" and connect that with a "because" to the freebie clause for this to make sense.

Plus since most people use them on bosses, K7s faster DPS seems more useful than BBs higher total damage because
