lack of inherent mana cost as a core mechanic is more of a design hurdle than a benefit, especially for spells
monsters have tribute, and tributes can be of specific types, but spells are all reliant on using up extra cards or LP or wacky conditional restrictions
inscryption had the right idea of pure monster-on-monster combat

Malicious should be limited I don't even give a fuck, get rid of this recycling bullshit.

lack of inherent mana cost is a discrete benefit in ensuring the game doesn't turn into a slogfest.

Mana in the MTG sense, as a resource you have to draw enough of (but not too much) is horseshit. You're always at risk of getting mana screwed or otherwise getting too much.
If you must have a resource system, do something else. Separate resource deck vs main deck and you choose which you want to draw from, have every card in the game double as a mana card so you can pitch cards you don't need for more resources, there are so many ways you can go that aren't retarded mana luck sacking bullshit.

powercreep inevitably decides games faster and slower, what fucking slogfests are you talking about?

>>723368678
lands are just mtg's heavy legacy, there's nothing to be done there, i am not defending that
but different types of spells/traps are nowhere near enough to differentiate them in powerlevel, which is how you get various PAY 2000 LP effects to at least get nominal costs

Yugioh's resource system is (or rather was) abstract. Card advantage, limited summons per turn, and the large number of essentially free power cards could easily punish over extending by putting the person who over extended into a deep card deficit.
The system only started to fall apart as combo became more and more free and that lack of cost ended up enabling decks that just took dozens of actions per turn.

this guy does not play card games
Anonymous No.723370106 >>723370978
I can't tell what I want out of a card game. It's not fun drawing a hand of nothing and basically just losing because of it, but I also don't like how in Yugioh you can just search for exactly what you need. Feels like it defeats the purpose of the deck.

Diamond Dude says hello as he disregards the cost to activate it upon drawing it from the deck via his ability.

He's right. There's like a million Trade-In's in Yugioh. They all suck. The only one that's somewhat good is Allure because it synergizes with Maliss since they want to banish their monsters anyway.
It used to be good, but even if it didn't require you to play a bad deck it'd still be bad.

Not helping is that the GY is basically a second deck now. Banishment (which when introduced was the end all be all for pretty much all cards) doesn't matter either, to the point the game had to introduce Banishing Face Down, the new end for cards... for now.

At the cost of 2. It is objectively a +0.
Now, this is yugioh, and you probably discarded some bullshit like d-hero malicious that just brings a copy out, but as a stand alone you play it (-1), discard 1 (-2) and draw 2 (+2) for a net 0.
