Do I have to play every fighting game series to be considered a fighting game fan? I only really like street fighter and mortal Kombat. Never cared for guilty gear, Tekken etc... I've tried other series but only to make my friends feel happy. I have a stronger connection to sf and mk characters since I grew up playing those series since I was like 8.

No, do what you want, but being well rounded can help you appreciate parts of the genre more. Trying something and deciding that it isn't for you is also better than just writing it off out of hand.

Most people don't play multiple fighting game series. For the most part, they tend to stick with one game or just one series, and I don't see a lot of people in FGC who go to tournaments for multiple games.

That said, they tend to have some familiarity with other games and have probably played several, given that they're generally fans of the genre and give other games a chance. If you've already played some other fighting games, then you're probably god there, and can just stick with SF and MK. People WILL shittalk you about such things (especially MK) but mostly its in good fun. As long as nobody is raging about it, don't worry too much and just have fun with the games. MK and Tekken make big money just selling to people who want to sit down and play some video games, so don't get upset about people looking down on those series.
