Was PlayStation truly superior to Nintendo 64?

PSX has better games in any genre of your choice

the 64's first party games were all way better than the ps1's first party.

but the ps1 has more good games than the 64 just by virtue of the library being like 5x larger. also it has rpgs.

If you're a nintendo die hard you got one or two games in franchises you care about, like one new ip, and looking back the games are all kinda rough with really gross visuals and heinously bad framerates so if you're publicly facing its easier to defer to 30 year old review scores about the games than actually talk about playing them.

PS1 however got over a dozen great games in every genre imaginable, mainstreamed or kicked off a dozen more genres, had several dozen good but not great installments, and tons of unique titles that today are looked back as stylish thanks to their higher res pixellated 3D and better framerates make them more appealing.

Apples to oranges.
PS1 was the cinematic SP game platform,
N64 the cutesy multiplayer system of choice.

Enjoy the games faggot, that's what it's about. Not brand loyalty.
What a fag.

n64 vs playstation is an interesting question cause the n64 has mario 64 and OOT, two of the most critically acclaimed and influential games ever made (personally I don't care for OOT but mario 64 is my favorite game ever). Really the only game the playstation has on that caliber is MGS. But outside of these 10/10s there are maybe a dozen or two worthwhile games in the n64s library but literally hundreds for the playstation. Are a few perfectly cut diamonds worth a bag of rougher gems? anyway yes I do have autism thank you for reading my blog

Yes, wtf? you have to be a heavy duty aids-ridden nintendofag to deny this.
I was somewhat of a convert. I bought a PS1 to play Final Fantasy and final fantasy tactics. I never ended up buying a N64, my brother had one that he never used, so I had that for Ocarina of Time and Majores mask

Overall? Yes. But it had some downsides compared to the N64.

Kingsfield 3 absolutely BTFOs Ocarina
Same with Spyro and Mario 64
Those games are mid incarnate. They are only liked because there was nothing else and speedrunners have bot farms to inflate Nintendo game metacritics

Hardware wise? Yes and no.
The N64 had cartridges, which have superior loading times, but are extremely limited in storage and are expensive as hell to make. The PS1 had discs, while loading times weren't great, allowed for much larger games to be made, and they were cheap as hell to manufacture.
The N64 has much superior hardware compared to the PS1, there is no denying that.
Games? Oh boy.
The N64 library is a solid tungsten statue of high quality games. Just about every game for it is great in some way, some legendary.
The PS1 had almost 10 times as many games, and most of them were good. In fact, the PS1's cheap disc manufacturing allowed for many different kind of games to be published, some truly bizarre.
To me, that's what made the PS1 the winner of that generation. Gaming was popular again, and Sony allowed damn near anyone with the cash to publish their game on their system.
It really was a wonderful time to be young and alive. Pic related is my favorite game for the PS1.

No. And not superior to the Saturn either.
But it had a good library. It inspired a good attitude. It got people interested, didn't disappoint. Served youth and more keeping their imagination nice and maybe outclassed. Art in finished examples maybe to be destinations ahead, outclassed as arriving at, not defeated by. Using to go further.

Bad scenarios were beautiful, suiting them as hero. Not a problem. Fun saving the world.

PSX game:

MGS graphics in daylight. Sand! White coloured buildings and palm trees. Some sort clean to clean. You ride a hoverbike by the sea, over the sand, jump a bank barrier between beach and road. Up over the grass, up high then low as the rest. Dodging traffic that's sightseeing alow. Lazy.

Coat to conserve geometry. Tall like everything is stretched. Long legs, buildings.

Ridiculously low res. Under a hundred in the two directions. Lower as toward edge of the screen or out of focus. Attention on what deserves it. Or is the highlight of the moment. Directed by it to beautiful things.

Seen for a few seconds, checked out they're collected.

Driver physics and gameplay as you break the speed limit and enter premisis without paying or by disregarding/sneaking past security.

Women need beautiful things. Seen enough and they're yours. Fucked. Porn before it wasn't free or without vieuses.

Fight by getting beaten up. Pressing shoulder buttons to prepare for the blows as they're local to your character facing them. Top left L1 etc.

Work minigames for the chance to see secret beauty. There or earned.

Comparing the hardware, the 64 is better. But it was so expensive to develop for due to using cartridges that it's library is tiny.

The library is tiny but it has SO MUCH quality. Mario 64, OOT and MM, F-Zero X, Beetle Adventure Racing, Mario Golf/Tenis, Paper Mario, a BUNCH of arcade-y racing games, Super Smash Bros, Donkey Kong 64 (i like it, sue me), Banjo Kazooie and Banjoe Tooie, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Mario Kart, the Mario Kart clone made by Rare.

Like, if you compare it to the Sega Saturn, the Saturn has over 1000 games and i can't from the top of my head remember as many great games as the ones i just mentioned. Only ones i can remember are: Panzer Dragon 1, 2 and Saga, Shinning Force 3 and Shinning The Holy Ark. Despite having 5 times the number of games the 64 had, most of it was Japan exclusive and not really all that good.

But, yeah. The PS1's library was huge, it takes the cake.

It doesn't seem like it when the only time this hardware has discussion that lasts 100s of posts is because the N64 is mentioned and people talk about those games instead.

>Comparing the hardware, the 64 is better.
Even if this is technically true, I think N64 games almost universally look ugly as sin
The textures are fucking mud and it rounds the edges on sprites which just looks bad

>the Saturn has over 1000 games
How the fuck

For every good game on the 64 there at least 5 on the ps1 that are as good.

PS1's library alone hardcore-mogged its competition, I'm so fucking glad I had one. N64 as well, but only for like 10 games or so.
