I'm EVROPEAN so I still get to use Win10 until next year.

My brother has a recent laptop with Win11 and it's fucking terrible. I remember when the bloat on Win10 was shit like Candy Crush and Solitaire that you could remove, and in fact it was easy navigating in the system and nuking that shit out, there was a program for that. Now there's not even Candy Crush or anything, the bloat is 100% malicious drivers and settings and it's a fucking pain to identify and solve whatever the problem is with your system.
Games launch at 2000x the volume, what the fuck is this, turns out it's an audio "enhancement" driver that exists in 5 different instances in the device manager, installed on the machine straight from the factory. Optimisation is also shit, for me a game runs at 100fps 1440p on a 3060 with medium-high settings, and on his laptop it runs at a bare 60fps 1080p with a 4060 and the lowest settings, I have no understanding of what the fuck is wrong because the GPU is updated and running correctly (for other games it works fine though, so what the fuck).
Sometimes he comes to me with a technical issue and I'm almost fucking helpless.

I have a laptop with an old Win11 release that I didn't touch for a couple of months. An update happened and for some reason the update was bugged and made my laptop unusable until a new version was released. I'm thinking of just smoking the OS and replacing it with a Linux distro that's more convenient (for what I use the laptop for, mostly music production).

Next year I flash a good Linux on the desktop. I'd rather get ass cancer than spend my life with Win11.

it never did? some software have config files, others have guis, depends on what you use. the big advantage of config files is that they tend to change less between each version.
if you go for something like bazzite you'll probably never be opening a config file or the terminal.

Windows has 1000 configuration files. You just don't look at them or know where they are.
Whether you need to look at them or know where they are on Linux depends on whether you're LARPing as a power user or making bad decisions. Basically, if Mint is your speed, don't install Gentoo. And don't follow 10-year-old "here's how to optimize Linux for gaming" guides or anything else purporting to be the first thing to do after installing Linux. Basic things work out of the box if you have AMD, but idiots break it right away assuming they need to tinker with everything.
>be an idiot experiencing day 1 of using Linux
>google "how to Linux gaming"
>find post about installing Wine staging
>"oh damn I have to do that??"
>fuck up the package manager with outdated commands to add some winehq repo
>get errors about broken packages
>"oh nooo"
>spend an hour trying to fix it and then reinstall Linux because dumb
>all of this was completely pointless because Steam, Lutris, Bottles, etc. all come with their own Wine builds and no newbie needs to think about /use/bin/wine anymore
Meanwhile the correct way to set up that Linux system for gaming was to do nothing.
Many such cases.

Anonymous No.723400103 [Report]

For anything other than games, don't count on using the Windows version. You're probably better off finding a Linux alternative. I've never heard of anyone using Wine for any kind of VPN software and not that I have any experience with VPNs, there's probably zero chance of that working, not would you want all your Internet connections going through some Wine process or whatever the fuck the VPN program in question does. Find out if your VPN provider supports Linux.
There is a Linux version of Discord, by the way.

>vpns
if it supports wireguard or openvpn it will work on linux, the app might not but the tunnel (the important part) will.
>parsec
i'm not familliar, but generally speaking linux has plenty of open source alternatives for shit like this, remmina for example works great. remote stuff is very big on linux, probably bigger than on windows because linux is where all the sysadmins work.

Anonymous No.723401925 [Report]
>>723401576
You mean those programs don't support Linux.
Linux doesn't support Windows programs at all because that's analogous to PlayStation "supporting" Nintendo games. The software needs to support the platform.
Wine (not Linux) supports various Windows APIs and thus can run many Windows programs, but this doesn't mean that operating system developers are suddenly responsible for porting software. Only the CAD software developers can port their proprietary crap to Linux. Linux has no responsibility to provide support, nor any means of doing so except via Wine which, at the end of the day, will always be a not-officially-supported hack.
Also I refuse to believe there are so many /v/ users doing CAD that it gets brought up in every Linux discussion.

Not a story, what I've said was facts.
People are free to use whatever they wish, but they are not really free on Windows/Mac. They are in fact- enslaved.
Not to mention that ANY properly made software (apps, games w/e) run on the same system (optimized to maximum capabilities of the system) will run best on Linux.
For example, you could make a Linux OS that is made to run only one game and nothing else. Kernel, files, needed programs and drivers will be minimal and it would run almost on bare metal as possible.
On other OSs such thing si impossible nad OS itself will always hog resources which will end up with worse performance.
That means- if you are not capable of understanding- that Linux is most powerful OS if developers support it equally.
