It's very simple: They are playing with other people's money, and they have no accountability. The board of directors are buying into the same bullshit as the executives. The shareholders are either activist investors who have limitless funds and no profit motive, or random Joe Schmoe who put his money into a retirement fund and has no idea that it is being used for this shit.
