What was the defining moment in this game when you realized it was a masterpiece?

Choral Chambers. The game is just ok before that area and Cogwork Dancers.

when sherma wanders off from the first shrine to gather medical supplies and you find him scared out in the world:

when you play the Needolin there he sings his song but in a very hesitant, scared tone.
So they recorded this "voice" line twice for something many players will miss.
Shit like this is the epitome of SOVL. it's proof they put love and care into little, seemingly unnecessary details.

It's not. It's a good game though, same as Hollow Knight.

I realized it was a masterpiss when I got a third crest and basically nothing useful after playing for 5 hours. total pacing disappointment. quit out of boredom in act 2. I hope Team Cherry dies in a plane crash while on route to some reddit fart sniffing conference.

Widow was unironically the best fight in the entire game.

>he says "whiteward? i dont know what that area is"

It's possible to straight up miss a bunch of areas if you just don't explore. Whiteward's key is at the edge of the First Shrine and if you just go through the door to ring the bell and get distracted by the Caretaker you're gonna miss it.

It's not as bad as Wisp Thicket which may as well be a secret area, but I'm not surprised that some players missed an entirely optional dungeon.

Getting to the Citadel and realizing there actually is several branching paths that all intertwine. Act 1 on a blind playthrough before patches was kinda ass ngl.

Realising how BRVTAL the game was willing to be while suffering in Sinner's Road, only to break an arbitary wall and discover Bilewater and realise I was deep, deep behind enemy lines, to finally find a bench, then into the mists, in which I suffered for 40 minutes before discovering the trick, then finding the exhaust organ, and phantom, all this was worth it for the feeling of ascending the elevator into the citadel and the music kicking. I had long given up hope that a game could do that to me ever again.
