6 was built on a completely different engine and rushed out the door because SCVI and T7 were doing gangbusters and Koei Tecmo wanted a piece of that 3D fighter pie.

Well people play the old ones because they were the Itegaki ones. But also just because, why would you need to play only the newsts games? Makese no sense. Prior to DoA5 the games were graphically a bit more stylysed. It was more of an anime look. I'm also pretty sure DoA2 on fightcade is the arcade version, which has a 6 way counter system, as opposed to the 4 way of other DoAs, which makes it a bit harder, and slightly more technical. DoA5 was also a bit more technical for a number of reasons. Strings which took some amount of skill to deal with offensively in 5 can be dealt with a lot easier and 6 has a meter and a counter that gets highs mids and lows I think. I've heard of a mod called DoA6++ that improves things a lot.

4 is just kino, great game.

Don't forget about DoA2 Ultimate, though, I don't know how you'd get that work for multiplayer, I just know it's apparently possible. There are videos on youtube of it being done.

Momiji and Rachel have VAs that are nearly 60 years old, they reprised their characters just earlier this year and they actually sound exactly the same it's impressive. Afaik no DOA VA has ever been replaced for 'not being able to do the voice anymore'. There's been a few deaths (Bass, Brad, I think Gen Fu), and retirements (Kasumi's original VA retired twice, Christie), and there may be cost/attitude factors for Lisa's. Tina's DOA1 actress was recast because they completely overhauled her character for DOA2 and they seemed to think the original actress was no longer suitable for the new direction.
