I don't think she is controversial though, but I can imagine it could have rustled some jimmies of non-book readers because she came out of literally nowhere as far as they are concerned and it must be very confusing, I don't think she is even referenced in W1 and W2.

She's referenced in both games, in the first game they mention that Geralt had a girlfriend he died with and that Triss is trying to gaslight him about her and 2's tweest in the end is that she's also been brought back and Letho saved her from the Hunt, she also actually appears in the credit roll kidnapped by Eredin.

Witcher 3 is the perfect kind of modern game. It has a puppydog sexo sub like Triss, but it also services the femoids who noticed males play vidyas and want to claim it for themselves, by having Yennefer be an empowered femoid.

I snooped on a lot of female twitch streams back in 2018 or something, and caught some women discussing the characteristics, claiming that they dislike Triss because "it's for men who want a puppy and not a woman" but like Yen because they see themselves in her.

In the end, what's not to love. If gaming could've stayed that way we'd been set. But no no. It just had to also move to Yennefer-like female protagonists and now we're moving into Trump's anti-porn America and the death of any sexual gratification in gaming at all.

from a canon standpoint she and Geralt are in destined soulmates due to a genie's wish, so there's constant tension as to whether they truly like each other or if it's just magical manipulation. she takes it harder than him and is a bitch a lot of the time.

from a meta standpoint CDPR turned Triss into a love interest for the first two games. the only way for this to work is if Triss is a complete fucking psychopath who manipulated and abused her amnesiac friend just to get laid. to 'balance' this somewhat they tuned up Yen's bitchiness so that it seemed like maybe Triss was doing it out of kindness instead of jealously

Because she's hot but has a terrible personality.

I finished replaying Witcher 1 and it has to be one of the worst games I have played no exaggeration, the only thing redeemable is the story and the atmosphere, it's feels like a shitty mmo except with some retarded rhythm game mechanics.
However I have recently started Witcher 2 and it's already a huge upgrade compared to the first game, its fun even though the combat is kind of mindless and spammy.
Also why does Zoltan in Witcher 1 look like he took more fentanyl than Floyd?
