Pokemon
Were you also there? When the biggest franchise in human history was born. Perhaps the most important event in our lifetimes.

Yes I was and it's always beena mediocre franchise. It gained popularity by stealing designs off better IPs. Series peaked at gen3 then again at gen7 now it's in the dumpster. Embarrassing how they stole a whole game from palworld after sueing them.

Yeah, i remember playing Red at an official event, before the game was out in my country. I immediately fell in love, managed to reach 1st gym with a charmander. It was also my first time playing with a game boy.
Crazy how they took the risk in 1998 to market the games to hell and back before even releasing it. The gaming era started at this very moment for me.

I wish it never became as big as it did. It would have been better off it was less popular.

Won a Gameboy Pocket in 95 or something, when Mario Land came out. I still remember vividly the first episode of PokΓ©mon airing in my country. My brother got a GBC with Blue and I bought Red for my Pocket. Spoiled ass stepbrother had Yellow, faggot.
Pokemon peaked for me when I got Silver and a GBA. Also collected all 151 cards.
Good times man.
Thanks for reading this useless story

I'll never forget the excitment I had when my parents went to the store and told me they bought it for me. They said they didn't know which color and I told them I didn't care but they got me the red edition because my dad is cool and knows whatsup. I wish I could experience that happiness again as I played through the game.

Yes I got Red for Christmas that year.

I came in late for Gen 1 (around end of 98) but I was there for the beginning of Gen 2. I remember watching Pokemon the movie in theaters. I also had those gold cards inside the Pokeballs.

Yup. I don't think we'll ever see a phenomenon like it again. It infected every kid around with the same mania, because every kid saw the same show, played the same game, and obsessed over the same cards, which were everywhere.
There are still kids out there who love Pokemon, but for them it's just one interest among thousands

I still have a gold card in a box somewhere. Are they worth anything now?

In the mid 2000s at least there wasn't that much hype.

I'm a no-standards slop consumer who plans to pick up my 'za today but I don't think I'll play it until it gets the inevitable first patch because that was painful to watch, poor fat soijack wannabe. I missed out on a shiny Fletchling like that.

This also happened with Yu-Gi-Oh for a while. It felt like as soon as Pokemania started slowing down everyone was getting into Yu-Gi-Oh.

I got into the franchise with the anime and didn't know there were games as a kid. My mom used to rent Pokemon episodes from our local video store for me every Friday. I didn't get into the games until Colosseum.

No idea honestly. I remember having a binder full of rares/holographics but over the years cards would go missing or be misplaced, and I haven't even seen that binder in like over 10 years now because we've moved a few times over the years. I wish I took better care of stuff as a kid.

Lucky, when I was screeching over tearing my whole hand open by accidentally hooking it on a loose piece of metal all I got was the chance to put a dollar into a card vending machine.
