You don't REALLY enjoy replaying a game 10 times to get the actual ending do you?

I actually agree, it's bullshit. I'm done with a game when the story is done, I'm not replaying it again because it's not "da tru ending" and to get it I have to do everything including the side stuff I didn't care for just for closure. I'm going to youtube for that.

Shf is fucking horseshit for this exact reason.
I don't give a fuck if Ryukishi thought it would be cool, but making the entire first playthrough essentially pointless is a fucking ass decision.
The changes in each loop of the game do not warrent the overall requirement of going through it all again. Alan Wake 2 also pulled this bullshit. Its pure shit.

The only time where replaying the entire game for a true ending attempt makes sense is if the game is already short enough and has incentives for you to do things over differently anyway.
Cave Story has the pull of the weapon trade ins that let you shake up your playstyle, as well as the discovery that you COULD save Booster and Curly if only you figured out how, and the end of the game on the normal end essentially telling you where to start.

Locking endings off, based off the amount of times you've beat a game is kind of fucked for a silent hill game.

That really is the way to make a game. There's a flood of people who just want to be done with a game after ~3 hours, if your game lasts more than that just put a bullshit ending at this point so those people feel satisfied with some closure.

I really like the NuGod of War's take on side quests: they're usually random dungeons, lore, some stranger's request or a side characters' personal quest. Why they're good is that each one usually starts a conversation topic that either tells us more about a character or ties into the major themes without changing the main quest.

Example: in God of War 2018, you can do a quest for a ghost pirate who stole your treasure before he died. The quest is basically to go steal his leftover treasure. Doing so, you find out the ghost stabbed was stabbed to death by his son, son became captain, then got betrayed and killed by the crew. It ties into the whole theme of familicide that the whole series is about. It makes the main story deeper without adding or changing any events.

I agree. I have way too many games to play to keep on playing the same thing over and over again -- even classics I love don't get an immediate second round. How many times did Nier expect me to complete it?

You are not supposed to 100% every game you play. Leave the autistic shit to actual autists.
If shit gets boring, uninstall the game after you are done with it. If you are still curious about other endings, watch it on youtube.
Anonymous No.723407520 [Report] >>723407809 >>723408240

Apparantly the first run of the game leads to a crappy ending that's not satisfying, whereupon the game basically goes "Sorry, you want the "real" ending? replay the whole game like 5 times to get something worth an ending to the plot".

Googling now, it's like 12 hours to beat the game ONCE.

Now imagine doing that for all the other 5 endings. Who wants to do that when there's other vidya to play/shit to do? Not me that's for certain.

Me I think optional should just be for extra XP, interesting audio logs, or just the satisfaction of doing it. Or just not have it at all and let the game be basically a straight book. You open it, you read through it, you close it, that's it.

He’s looking at it from a journo/critic’s perspective. They want to finish games quickly and move on to the next one.

Journos tend to have a bias for narrative focused games for this reason, since you can experience most of what narrative games have to offer in one playthrough.

I work 9-5, and if I play a game, I just chip away at it for a few hours each night. Same as when I was a kid in school.

I don’t see the excuse other than people just wanting to feel like they experienced the “hot new thing” in a day or two.

so you're complaining about a game you know fuck all about to the point you had to google shit?
yes the first run takes 12 hours because you're playing the game for the first time, the subsequent runs are like 1/4 of that length because you know what the fuck you're doing and you can skip cutscenes you've already seen, the game LITERALLY tells you when it's a new cutscene and when it isn't
not only that but you can straight up skip parts like the middle school because you already know the locker combination for the gate key and just return to Shu and Rinko in seconds
I swear I wish you faggots would at least know what the fuck you're talking about

Idk I liked the NG+ system of ac6. Age of decadence also massively profits from repeat playthroughs and is practically designed around it considering a single playthrough is relatively short rpg-wise.

Optional content usually just means bonus challenges/quests/content that aren’t required to understand the game’s story and are just there for really dedicated players to get more mileage out the game. It’s been a thing in games forever.

Play a cinematic movie game if you want a game that usually has no side content whatsoever.

>>723408456
I mean, almost no one watches the end credits of a movie to completion, so they technically don’t see 100% of the movie. Many a post-credit scene has been missed this way.

Dishonored does this. How you play the game on a moment to moment basis has arguably more impact on the game’s ending than any individual choice in isolation.

The first Infamous has its ending be completely tied to your Karna too.

Ryukishi is used to doing it because in visual novels, that premise works because you can skip all the text you've read before without any effort by the player. In an actual video game it doesn't work if the game itself isn't fun to play and nothing changes other than the dialogue. Something like Hades gets a pass because your runs are so varied but even in Nier, having to replay through the sections you've already done to see more content is annoying. Nier Automata at least changes the gameplay but the OG Nier didn't.
