Mirror's Edge
They don't make 'em like they used to...

Then again, we aren't how we used to be either.

I remember watching the trailer for it and it seemed unreal. I think Mirror's Edge is the tail end of the golden era of video games.

i miss being a teenager and being filled with optimism for my future and the future of mankind

i'm now twice the age i was when this game came out and with itigaki dying before 60 i'm realizing how limited my time here really is and i fear i won't have time to do anything i really wanted before it's too late

back when i saw the trailer and magazine reviews didn't click, felt like a clique of the current thing of the time, but when played it... top 5 favorite games alog with catalyst

Just wish this game had had more content or been more difficult. I crushed the whole thing in like 3 days.

Mirror's Edge is an action game fucking a puzzle game to make a retarded baby.
>oh, the game was getting too enjoyable?
>here's 20 guys with machine guns because we lack the talent to make platforming the challenge
>where's the exit, you ask?
>it's this random door down this random side hallway
>how were you supposed to know that?
>by holding the hint button of course!
>yeah I guess that does defeat the purpose of a puzzle game haha whoops
>btw good luck sloooowly turning the valve for the door while 20 guys shoot you in the back :)
>I guess you have to do some of those EPIC SLOW MO TAKEDOWNS :)
>finally made it? ready for some cool platforming?
>TOO BAD FUCKER HERE'S A HELICOPTER XDDD EPIC SLOW MOOOOOOOOO
It's a great premise and artstyle wasted on a bad game. No coincidence everyone's favorite part is that brief atrium section with no combat.

It's pretty clear the devs lost confidence in a tranquil courier game so they hastily bloated it with combat and setpieces. And instead of learning their lesson for the sequel they quqdrupled down and added more lmao

it's not devs, it's shareholders or retarded project manager requiring combat to sell to the widest audience possible

My favorite parts are the time trials to be honest. I agree, being chased by dudes with guns is no fun, and being forced to fight them to progress is even worse.

EA needs to try rebooting Mirror's Edge again, only this time bundling it with the Battlefield Portal level editor

13y/o me picked this game over Dead Space when they came out, purely because of the visuals. It's still one of the best-looking games I can think of to this day, and not even Catalyst managed to fully replicate it though I still had fun with that game, despite the DOGSHIT story and sci-fi setting.

And then I got Dead Space a few months later and shit my soul out anyway.

What's with every board (/v/ in particular) having multiple prolific schizos since the hack?

Here I go again, another mirror's edge thread where I tell people to play Catalyst because it's underrated and forgotten and shouldn't be. It's enjoyable, it's fun, the soundtrack is great. I love both games I wish more people would just stop hating on Catalyst though.

I still think the original's city was better since it was more grounded and real, but Catalyst had some cool setpieces. The underground segments were fun, and I fucked with that one big skyscraper that you could destroy by dropping the earthquake counterweight.

I think the best parts overall were the gritty construction zones and ground-level areas. I don't remember much about the waterfront district.

There's also some weirdo who posts pictures of hairy white guys in kimonos in every anime game thread. Apparently he was so mad at Xenoblade having different character names overseas that he just saved a whole folder of those pictures to spam at "weebs" on /v/?

Something about him being an /x/fag and believing if everyone associates him with Eve she'll become his tulpa or whatever, basically harmless but retarded. Another anon posted a screencap explaining it once, but I didn't save it

I really enjoy both games, I still play ME every few years again, but I've played Catalyst twice now and it's a much longer game with some really nice art direction too.

Mirror's Edge 1 I can beat in basically one sitting since it only takes about 4 hours to play through the whole thing once you've done it 10 times already.

No, there are other dudes that guy posts. I know my Ken-sama.

It's crazy that the first game literally has lost technology that can't be run on 40x nvidia cards anymore
It's the living proof that vidya devs have lost skills over time

Catalyst hasn't the style of the original. I also hated how annoyingly linear the "open world" was,ike there was really only one or two ways around it. And the skill tree.

to be fair, there are multiple parts in the game (in particular the boat level) where they lock you into a room full of cops with automatic weapons and machineguns and the only way out is slowly turning a valve.
