Not sure what it is about agumon bond of bravery but it just looks weird, kinda hitting the uncanny valley effect. Considering all the humanoid digimon out there I'm surprised its the only one that gives me that feeling

after finishing the game, I decided to do another playthrough, but this time using CE to unlock all the digimon evolution tiers from the start (nothing else from agent ranks)
and honestly, this feels like how the game should have been
I feel like I have been naturally raising my digimon, and putting in the actual effort to do so, as well as actually using a variety of other digimon
turns out when you don't have to fucking wait arbitrarily for a point in the game to use the mons you want to, the game is fun.
It never felt like I was unbalanced at all, mostly because when playing through the game you don't actually have all the agent skills to increase stats to make evolution easier until later, so it still takes a bit of effort to get digimon to the point where they can evolve, and it feels like a much better accomplishment when you do get there.

from my test in this playthrough there really is not much difference. The pace at which I got each tier was a bit sooner than in the base game, but nothing egregious.
I am honestly of the opinion though that digimon is one of those franchises where it's important to let people use their favorites. When you can't use your favorites until the last 5th of the game, it feels kinda shitty
With how the game works, you can also just max the stats and level of any tier digimon and make them godly. The only difference is the tier multipliers, which are only really an issue on mega and mega+ difficulty.

How does digivolving up and then down work? Should I wait a few levels before going back down to carry their stats? Right now I’m basically getting ultimates solely because I’m a pay pig and paid for the money dungeon and use the farm. But fuck me is it tedious. Yes.
If you have enough bond%, 10% of the stats gained as the digimon leveled get turned into blue stats.
So a lvl 1 digimon evolving gets nothing, while a lvl 11 digimon evolving (with enough bond) gets 10% of the stats gained since lvl 1 as blue stats.

I really like it. If you like JRPGs and Digimon you'll like it too.
The story is pretty good and I like the characters (except the Operator dear me I wish they'd shut up). The side quests are fun, the main story is fun, and there are enough twists and changes that will keep you engaged. The music is good, same for voice acting and sound effects. I haven't beat the game yet (probably 3/4th through). The story can feel a bit confusing sometimes, but I chalk up most my confusion with having not played the other recent Digimon games.
My only actual gripes:

>the overall tying agent skill to Digivolution

I was ranting to myself about the 2020 anime yesterday (like a crazy person yes). It is frustrating because it is so long and very repetitive. It has 67 episodes, and I think if they made it 26 episodes it would have been a big improvement. It has some great moments and cool episodes though. It gives an impression that this was made to put a Digimon anime on air as long as possible for the sake of keeping Digimon in the public concious rather than making a good show. Again, has some really great moments and I think a few scenes are totally worth watching. I don't think I can in good faith recommend every episode. Maybe a compilation of all the best moments would be the ideal experience. It also has a great soundtrack.

Your Digimon in this, like most of these games are NPC grunts or goons with no interaction on anything except combat or the odd question to shift their personality for combat related reasons. It’s something that always bugs me for a series that always pushes for having these Tamers and Digimon having strong bonds and unique interactions, you the player character unlike everyone around you, your Digimon has zero input on anything and you’re lucky if it talks period. I'm playing the demo right now and one of the first things I noticed is how fucking quiet the game is. Digimon feels like a game that should have the sort of back and forth quipping that BG3 has. Instead your character just nods to everything and the dominant sound in any non-battle scene is the echo of your footsteps. Just seems a really odd design decision.
