Small girls surviving in the post apocalypse is actually a really cool aesthetic. I wish there were more games that were like this instead of the whole “surrogate father proteccs a defenseless girl” trope. It’s been done to death. How about girls who can fight and actually take care of themselves and fend off raiders? That’s what I would like to see.

It could be really interesting. Simply showcasing the multiple advantages humans have and how quickly they can learn when it is important. It also shouldn't fall into the cliche of making the girls look all beaten up and dirty. Show them clean an mostly fine. It can be better if you aren't dealing lethal damage and/or can't reliably get headshots. Leg and arm shots are situationally useful, just like targeting grenades with it is sometimes good

Shooting the weapon will disarm an enemy. Useful on the DLC supermutants in F3 since they have cheating rifles.
Crippling legs will also slow an enemy down but it's really only useful on the tankiest of melee fags.

I've got an idea that's kinda both. I can't rember the similar games off the top of my head to type up a quick mash-up, but basically you'd be playing papa to a species of eternal lolis that spawn out of the ground like goblins or some shit. Smart but not adult-smart, so they need you to direct them in battle, engineering projects, and so on. The world is otherwise a post-post-apocalypse with pockets of these terra-lolis popping up here and there, forming villages to try and beat back the encroaching wilds. Village elders are required by loli-law to wear mustaches.

To elaborate, I think it'd be more 'base-building' in terms of something like an RTS, setting up outposts, supply chains, field chymstry for unit evolution, and defensive positions. It'd probably feel something like WCIII with you directly commanding a hero unit and just kinda pointing out directions to your terra-lolis.

Shooting guns is neat if you are doing a pacifist/Lucky Luke build I guess. Unless the enemy uses cheap shit like cowboy repeaters or service rifles it's better to just headshot them and sell the weapons.

Tangentially related but, I think it’s funny how much /v/ and the internet absolutely despises Bethesda and Fallout 3 but seem to love VATS and the pipboy and its radio and make all these memes about them, despite all being inventions of Fallout 3, and the devs of 3 who came up with it, and then people seemingly attributing it to New Vegas instead or just acting like it always existed independently of 3 to more easily portray Fallout 3 as a completely irredeemable slop pile with absolutely no good qualities- no exceptions - but then not mentioning the universal fondness for some of its systems like VATS, body crippling, and the gore, especially when it’s ported into FNV.

Oh I played Nech exclusively for like five years. It was great. It's just one GM wanted a break from the system and the other GM burnt out from the GM seat entirely. It's easily my favorite system but the timing just hasn't worked out for me to go back to it yet, especially with my new job.

Yeah, Fetters are neat (although we frequently were bad at tracking them). Very handy way to flesh out a PC quickly and keep the drama rolling. Helps establish a dynamic right away instead of having to feel everything out first. It wasn't a proper Nech game but I got to play pic related in a whacky, crossover horror thing and I was leaning on Fetters HARD for figuring out how she'd react to the other party members (who were just as off the wall and out of place as she was).

My favorite part of the system is the combat, personally. The AP and Timing systems just make everything so dynamic. The moment my GM dragged us back to 5e I wanted to die for real... at least I don't have to run it.

Hope you get a chance to get back into it, anon! Your character sounds like she would've been a lot of fun (or drama, but usually that's the same thing).

Nechronica characters have 'Fetters' which represent their relationships. You have one for a personal item that your character values, one for each party member, and sometimes ones for important NPCs. These range from romantic interest to being protective to just hating someone. They're the things that keep your character stable.

Each Fetter has 4 dots, which represent how much Madness is on the Fetter. If a Fetter fills up (either because something bad happens to your character or because you were in combat too long or whatever) the PC enters a state of madness and is compelled to perform a certain action or take a penalty depending on which Fetter is full. These can range from breaking parts on the Fetter's target, refusing to move away from them, taking an AP penalty, hurting yourself, etc. If all Fetters are full your PC is Broken Hearted and effectively out of the combat. If a whole party is Broken Hearted then it's an immediate game over/party wipe.

It's not super deep but it's an elegant little deal all told.

Yeah, shoot the arms of human enemies and they drop their guns intact. Or shoot the gun until it breaks and they won't be able to use it. Shoot the legs of melee humans enemies and they won't be able to use the pounce attack they love to spam. Same for creatures. Shoot deathclaws in the legs and they become really slow and can't jump you anymore. Lots of different options. They're more important with difficulty mods.
