Will Ultimate Charge Aero (level 4 boost lets you go off-road) actually be useful when it releases? The amount of places where you can build up a level four drift before a worthwhile off-road shortcut isn't very high, and you have the wisps in time-trials so there isn't much of a use for it there either.

There's a few courses with more shortcuts per lap than there is wisps, so it could be useful in theory. Problem is it's a 3 slot gadget so you're giving up ring boost entirely to get it, which is probably not worth it.

Sometimes I'd rather get hit with a sawzall than a boxing glove, at least the saw doesn't make me lose all my rings.

With how they're placed on the courses they're on, you basically have to know where they are in advance or you will hit them, especially if using a vehicle with low handling. On Metal Harbor they're conveniently placed after jump ramps where you can't properly steer once in midair. On Radical Highway they're conveniently placed behind view-blocking barriers at the top of an upwards slope. It definitely questionable design but it doesn't ruin the tracks, track memorization is a part of the genre.

Your use cases are unrealistic since it assumes that the player who gets the shuriken will be significantly more skilled than everyone else in the room to be able to move to a position to use it effectively while still not being particularly effective. The game shouldn't expect a player to start hunting down baggers at their own detriment to pretend like they are helping the other people in a race even though there are still three or four other baggers left unchecked. Plus, even the bagger you manage to hit will just use their item to leave you behind in a worse position than they are even having used one of their items at a less than ideal time. The game also shouldn't expect you to be able to outrace all of the other players without boost items to take your shuriken into second to throw it at the person that will have extra warning and options to avoid it compared to slime or weights. In reality, the person who picks it up is just going to ruin the day of the person directly in front of them.

My issue is that I don’t like the idea of a super punishing item just because on a rare occasion you may be able to make a good play against someone who’s strategy should just be removed from the game. It is a bad solution to a problem that shouldn’t exist that becomes its own problem. Boosting over grass is ok because the person you pass doesn’t take heavy stun damage and lose their items, putting them in a really bad position unless they have just the right item or really good reflexes.

Anti-bagging items do their job of removing items or at least forcing early use equally to everyone. Anti-front runner weapons are supposed to be disproportional since there is more ground to makeup and a better chance the player will be able to recover. Hitting a mid-pack player with something so punishing is unnecessary and doesn’t serve any meaningful purpose.

EG charges faster (there is a hidden statistic beyond just the higher Boost that makes it the best at drift charge spam). Handling has a slightly higher speed modifier while charging, and higher Handling helps you charge drifts as well too. Just not as much as EG.

Unless you're planning to giga sweat in time trials, Handling cars are the current best catch-all vehicle class for generalists.

how did he do it? easy. turned off crossplay. when you turn off crossplay, you can only go versus others that turned off crossplay. combined with being in the highest bracket of matchmaking, more than half the lobby will be bots.

The AI pretty blatantly cheats. It takes turns at literally impossible angles at full speed, it drives over grass without slowdown, and because it's simultaneously seeing in front of it and behind it it always knows when it can hit you.
If it helps, I think backward shots are determined by if you're in the CPU's slipstream, so you can barely nudge in and out of it to bait it into using an item.
