The thing is the entirety of the previous story in the game has always been YOUR story, with YOU as the main character, so you had npcs sucking your dick as the great hero the entire game.
Dawntrail decided to have someone else as the hero, and while this could work if it had good writers sadly instead we got Wuk Lamat, the sheltered princess who claims to love her people and wants to lead them but literally knows nothing about them.
So we get a whole expansion of following this dumb ass shonen protagonist around doing nothing but supporting her and praising her for doing fuck all, and we are supposed to like her.

And all of this is a sample. In ARR tons of foreshadowing is missing for English players because they consistently chopped out parts of the plot and lore. And it's something they continued/continue to do throughout the entire time the game has been running. And that's only part of the issue with the localization. There's stuff contradictory lore added, there's huge tonal differences, there's tons of stuff. Which culminates to the game not even really be translated. But more like rewritten entirely.

Imagine if someone like Yaana was the protagonist (so she doesn't look disgusting) and she was actually the adventurous person Wuk was introduced as in Endwalker's end patches. Going to see Erenville to see if he's got anyone to help her win the succession might have in truth have been an excuse to go meet up with him because she just misses him.

She takes part in the trials because it's expected and doesn't really put much effort in. She passes her trials due to her familiarity with the cultures involved which she imparts to us as a sort of quasi-guide until maybe Valigarmanda makes her realize that this isn't a joke and she needs to take things seriously. Maybe Valigarmanda actually, you know, causes actual destruction and kills people.

No Koji is not a loremaster. He's only real contribution(and this goes for the EN team as a whole) is naming some things. I think Koji also did the dragon language but that's the extent of the EN team's impact on the game lore. The vast majority of his lore contributions come about during the localization process. And this is by his own admission. The english team also 100% doesn't consult the japanese team when they're translating. Pic related is a good view into how Koji does things.

I hated it because its an awful story that meanders around and relies on familiar faces to sell done drama rather than the actual circumstances. PvE content needs to be more sandbox-oriented and less rigidly scripted. Job kits need to be expanded with more options and quirks rather than tightly designed intentional rotations. 2 minute meta and fight design needs to be eradicated.
