How much of a time sink is this game? I am sick of playing 200 hour grindy games but the premise of this looks interesting. I don't care if you don't like the game is it a huge time investment to play?

It can be a time sink if you plan to do certain end game content or go after legendary schematics, but the Pals are cute which makes up for it. Also there are sandbox settings which can be adjusted to lessen the grindy elements.

Last time I played it the game had an options menu that gave you the option to increase EXP rates and shit, I think you can put the settings so high you basically reach endgame in 10 hours or something.

Increasing pal capture rate is a good one and reducing the weight of items. I honestly wouldn't touch exp until you feel like it is getting grindy, imo you level up a bit too quick in the early levels but it slows down a good amount later.

Beating the last two tower bosses (on normal mode) will require some minor degree of refining your pals or your own character to beat them.
Beating (Ultra difficulty) Raid bosses will require you to make strong pals via breeding.
All of this can be tweaked in the world settings in any case if you just want to experience the game.

IMO hard mode bosses and normal raids can be fun goals for the challenge of it, but I don't like the idea of breeding 20 or whatever of the same pal just to try and take down an ultra boss.

Legendaries also require a shitload of resources for an often marginal stat boost compared to the previous tier, so unless you really like a particular weapon it isn't really necessary.

The game has some pretty granular sliderd to tweak game expierence. The default is fine for a bit, but you hit a point where the grind is felt. Thankfully you can just drop it or add more people to the server.

It's pretty funny how it really does feel pretty good at the start then it ramps up to becoming a pretty crappy experience.
Almost like they balanced the game to a certain point then just sort of looked at just the numbers from that point onward instead of actually playtesting it.
Then again, you can just tweak things to your liking so it's less of an issue than it could otherwise be.

It 100% depends on what your goal with the game is, but seeing as i am not the first reply in the thread, OP is 100% gone so i'll lay it all out

Should not be an issue, normal mode tower bosses do not need minmaxed pals and builds to beat, hitting their weakness is the bare minimum
>Building a big automated base
Moderate grinding but once you get to automatically get the right resources, shit's smooth sailing (through fuck fuel farming, you're going to need big electro pals)
>Breeding
Thank god for Hatch time 0, but this is only sugarcoating it if you want to minmax your shit by passing down supreme traits, it's still going to take a fat while
>Hard mode bosses
It is both grindy and not grindy because they have cheese strats (i.e. the last current tower boss can get cheesed with wixen), but getting the cheese is inevitably recquiring to milk some time
>Raids and legendary weapon schematics
Base raid bosses aren't that bad, but good luck with the harder variants and especially good luck with the lv60 oil rig base

TL;DR. Beating the game is not grindy, 100%'ing the game/beating it in a harder setting is where the grind is

You can try to beat Palworld using specific pals, i know a nigga from /vm/'s palworld general who beat the whole game with Lovander and even back during its launch, people managed to beat the tower bosses with a fucking Chikipi, but let's face it, shit loops back to the breeding grind to get a Juggernaut of a pal that can fucktomize shit alone. But the option is there, one thing people misunderstand about palworld is that you do NOT need to gigaminmax and micromanage everything in your base so you only have the best shit, that Chikipi you caught at the start of the game is still going to be of use in your late-game base because any resource generated is still a fucking resource.

Upgrading=/=Minmaxing, it's just common sense to grow your base to do bigger shit.

They've turned shit that was only available as mods into features before like the IV scouter, though the modded camera mode's better than the real one but only for nitpicky reasons.
In either way it does show pp is addressing shit to polish the game up, palworld in 2025 is not the palworld of 2024, and 1.0 is likely going to be a damn alien game.

The game's pretty good all around even if its flaws are glaring and annoying. I still think ill of the days the most effective thing in the game is niggastacking Gobfins to turn you into a walking nuke, felt reductive compared to the early game where a diverse team helps.

I played the game for about 30 hours before dropping it. I imagine if you love Pokemon and you love survival/crafting/adventure games, you'll love this.

I essentially beat the 2nd boss at around the 30 hour mark of the game (pic related) I am not sure how much more of the game was left.

So it's only as grindy as you want it to be.

You can adjust the grinding and difficulty when making a game session in Palworld. You can also share pals across all saves and different sessions by crafting a Global Palbox. You can either trivialize or make more difficult the game at each setting, hardcore included.

You can complete the game fairly quickly after you gain access to the surgery table and fishing rod. There are people who've even beaten it without crafting. Base autism will take up as much time as you want since it's more of a sandbox feature.

Afaik raids only show up when you're at your base and you can just teleport away for awhile if you really want to if a raid happens with no penalty. It's a good idea to have your base pals leveled up decently in comparison to your base level, but you don't need to assign a specific pal for sandbag/turret defense. The turrets don't work very well for base defense anyways.
