No director, protag or setting is going to change the fact that there's only so many times you can milk the concept and gameplay of AC by reskining it to different places or time periods before it loses any sense of novelty, identity or quality and this limit has been reached a long time ago. AC was fresh, cool and intriguing once, but almost nobody has been genuinely passionate about this franchise since like Syndicate, including the devs themselves, and that was 10 fucking years ago.

This isn't true at all. They're constantly experimenting and iterating on various mechanics, the castle design has gotten incredible with each new game to the point that it's some of the most fun gameplay to get to your target within them, and the art team clearly cares a bunch. It's just that they keep getting garbage thrown their way or rushed.
