I bought SF6 for the Switch 2 and I was already bothered to see Sagat on the main screen greyed out with a shopping cart next to it but all characters have multiple colors.

That was rarely the case. Commonly they would just branch off an existing engine and tweak it to suit their need.
Still better than what devs do today of using engines as is and wondering why their game runs at 5 FPS on a RTX5090 and blaming players for it.

What the fuck are you talking about?
Anyone with two braincells to rub together can smash together a PC with pirated windows, a monitor and 200 bucks worth of old parts.
And it can run more games than all consoles put together. You can get more good games than you can play through in two lifetimes off of Piratebay alone.
That's not filtering by wealth or geographic location, ONLY functional braincells.

As a kid was bored because new games were 80$ and parents only got them for birthdays and christmas.

As an adult bored because games are like 5-20$ and everything is a rehash of shit ive already played maybe with better graphics or some stupid feature.

I remember a PC strategy game called Imperium Galactica 2 back in 2000 and it has more features than space 4x strategy games being made and sold today. Every fucking planet you controlled had its own 3d sim city thing going on and fighting the ground battles involved those cities which is nuts. You had the ability to custom design the weapons and other parts of all your ships and tanks, you could steal technologies engage in spying and the more research facilties you had the faster your research times were along with the ability to double the speed of research for double the cost. shit was nuts.

I broke the game recently playing the space jew faction which has a weaker military but i made trade ports and banks and pretty much every world i controlled so I basically cheesed the game by having a constant stream of extra income from NPC traders visitiing my planets. This extra income basically allowed me to steam roll the entire galaxy exponentially because regardless of having slightly less powerful ships and not being able to research the strongest weapons it didnt matter due to being so ahead of everyone else due to the power of money. See thats fun game mechanics you wont see now adays.

>characters are free and automatically unlocked
however
>beating an actually challenging time in normal or hard Arcade mode unlocks a palette
>every character has an individual level
>leveling characters unlocks palettes, skins, and misc. stuff
>reaching level 100 gives you the edgelord skin
>doing literally anything gives you coins to unlock skins, palettes, stage skins, and even more misc. stuff
I also really like Sakurai's challenge grid system that he used in Kirby Air Ride. I hope he brings it back for Air Ride 2.

Even the writers of said characters hate it, a lot of these companies feed the script to a committee for β€œfeedback” thats often 20 or so people (that don’t play videogames or even know how to write) that erode every aspect of humanity till its a greyish blob of bland to ensure some corporate standard of β€œexcellence”, which means they’re just making it as inoffensive as possible for absolutely no negative PR or feedback to β€˜maximize’ sales

Nobody in the AAA industry likes it, they do it to everything; character designs, story, dialogue, then they run everything by the corpo lawyers that’ll also have their own input which shaves off even more, then the marketing division does the same, it’s a β€˜too many cooks’ situation where someone took the cooks finished meal and passed it around for everyone to add their own spices

End result is just a bland mess that nobody except the most tasteless enjoy

it gets worse: the old games have more colors than the new games. You'd think if they made money of colros, they'd want to make more of them but they just don't for some reason.

Also guilty gear used to let you make your own color scheme but they removed it. MBTL and CotW are the only modern games that let you do that.

Whats your fav game now? I bet it's still the same 20 year old game because the industry is fucked.

>unlocking characters by playing
That was also kind of shit. The game's either local multiplayer, in other words a party game, whereby it fucking sucks for parties if shit's locked because you hadn't played the game enough beforehand. Or it's online multiplayer, meaning newer players are at an unfair disadvantage against those who have shit unlocked.

Even with purely single player games it can be annoying if you've played the game before and just want to get to the part where you have everything because you already know that's the really fun part but have to go through babysteps the game insists upon with its unlock system. Unlockables are only acceptable if the game has cheat codes that unlock it or just outright puts an option in the game to unlock everything in case you've played the game before or you intend it for parties, or you're not wanting to be screwed over online.

The reason we don't have unlocks by playing anymore is because of retards like this >>723481698 btw. Games are no longer a product you can continue to enjoy more of as you play. Zoomers need everything right now, right away no waiting. Even worse is they'll pay to get it too. So "unlocks by playing" turned into "unlocks by paying". Streamers are also to blame for this. They need to extract all "fun" from a game immediately so they can move onto the next FOTM.

Being able to get to unlock shit in a reasonable timeframe. Modern Warfare 2 ('09) it took 20 kills with the red dot sight to unlock the holographic sight. 30~ kills with a suppressor to get the heartbeat monitor. I don't know where it went wrong but Modern Warfare 2019 was the first game I recognized it where weapons had their own XP progression. And it's the same shit in Battlefield 6.

I do not want to have to marry a weapon to unlock all of the attachments for it. I am 30+ games deep on the default LMG in BF6 and I've unlocked like maybe 10 sights, a barrel, and STILL don't have a fucking handgrip. Shit attachments that don't even actually matter besides changing recoil patterns or other super autismo shit I couldn't care less about.

A story is really important to a game and you need to be open to looking forward to learning new stuff about the game. It's just a problem when Ubisoft puts in fucking 100+ follow/stealth sequences in a game to pad out game time and drove thousands of players' attention spans into the ground and ruined pacing for actual GOOD games.

And everything I was talking about as far as single player was concerned was about if the player had played the game already. An RPG equivalent of what I'm talking about would be if the game had its hardest difficulty be initially locked and require beating the game once to unlock it. But you've played this game already and due to circumstances I already mentioned you're now replaying the game with it not remembering you having beaten it.

You don't want to do regular difficulty again, it's too easy for someone whose played the game already. But you apparently have to play the entire game again if you want to unlock the difficult you're actually replaying the game for. It would be a sparring you a serious waste of time if it was possible to just get that harder difficulty unlock maybe by some form of cheat code. Downloading a save could also work but that's only really possible with pc games and the internet isn't always the most reliable at providing save files.

But what if that's the point? The website that is supposed to contain all of the lore is filtered through the eyes of the main character who chronicles everything and, when it comes to bits and pieces he does not want to come out, he either embellishes the facts or just lies. Then, once the truth is revealed in the games, then the chronicler is forced to write how things truly went until, ultimately, the final canon is made.

You clearly didn't play back then.
Seeing a glitch on a cartridge game would usually mean your game just became unplayable, and you'd have to pull it out an put it back in again.
Probably blow on it first, maybe bust out the cleaning kit if you were fancy, or even do that thing where you push the cartridge back in at the very edge of the plastic, which sometimes did something for some reason.

I miss gaming urban legends.
Like how you would sit down with your friends during lunch at school and say you know a guy who knows a guy that discovered an upside down castle in Symphony of the Night. Or that you can get chickens that lay gold eggs in harverst moon. Or that you can make Lara Croft undress or resurrect Aeris

Nowdays a week before a game comes out and we already know everything about it. There is no mystery or discovery anymore, unless you go out of your way to avoid the internet while you play.
