We don't know any details. The haunting could very well be a subconscious thing. If it was deliberate, it wouldn't have taken hundreds of years for Pharloom to fall to ruin because of it and we do know that the haunting started after GMS was sealed. And we know that GMS subconsciously used her silk because that's how Lace and Phantom were born. Also, if the haunting was a deliberate action on GMS's part then Widow wouldn't have been able to affect it. You are making negative assumptions based on nothing because you just don't like the character and you're trying to project your bias on me.

we know she conquered lesser higher beings and their kingdoms, like those four whose dreams you can enter, but there's zero proof she actually did anything evil beyond that

the weavers roofied her with their silk song then employed vaultkeepers to teach the silk song to pilgrims and lie about it being holy and granting wishes so they could continue the ancestral art, conductors to perform the life extending/lumafly surgeries and rule over the pilgrims, then tried to create life with the architects by implanting soul imparted silk from the surgeries
even the bugs on the surface talked about the weavers calling them while not mentioning it was actually GMS

it's very possible she has been roofied since almost the very start of the kingdom and that almost everything in pharloom was the weavers' doing??

the only proof we have that she had some kind of power before being imprisoned is the fact she imprisoned the First Sinner while awake

If she was imprisoned by the Weavers then she would be in some high tech Weaver prison or she would be sealed similar to how the Weavers sealed GMS but she was sealed similar to how the Hollow Knight was sealed within the Temple of the Black Egg which implies the work of a higher being so she was most likely sealed by GMS.

Or think of it this way: an atomic bomb has to be built out of lead and graphite to contain the uranium within. But those materials don’t give it power. The uranium is what’s destructive. The lead and graphite just make it usable and allow it to be concentrated. They enhance its destructive capability and allow it to be wielded for a purpose, rather than just melting everything around it into a coughing skinless husk. But at bottom, they are merely a specialized container for the true power source.

Silksong's ending hints at both Dream No More and Godmaster without leaning too much into either. Regardless of which ending it is the Knight now seems to remain dormant in the Abyss as an entity that can exert its own will and desires, even if it goes against the hivemind of the Void.

The Knight's cracked shell doesn't mean much. The dark ghosts are the true forms of the vessels.

We've known this isn't true for a long time (webm related proves it once you understand what Nosk is), and Silksong's ending pretty much confirmed it can't be true because the Knight goes directly against the entire Void in order to protect Hornet. The Knight thinks and has a will.

I don't think the timelines even matchup well enough for it to be the case. The Weavers were busy fighting the Rebellion and had their Weavenests set up with some of them telling the Weavers to skedaddle out to other kingdoms (like Hallownest). They didn't all just decide to fuck off long after the Rebellion, it seems a good chunk of them left during it, and the remaining ones either couldn't find First Sinner, couldn't break her out of her jail, or just didn't give a shit because she was an asshole or something.

The Weavers punished Widow by breaking her mask and sealing her silk with pins. If they punished First Sinner, why would they lock her in gay baby jail for eternity?

Because it's not in his interest to intervene. The Void was in the process of consuming another Higher Being. Why would he stop that from happening? Why would the Knight care about Pharloom? He's a Void creature. It's like being a monkey and seeing your monkey tribe collecting a lot of free banana.

>No reason given for why he didn't intervene earlier and just solve act 3 off screen.
GMS was busy dying in the Void anyways, he didn't care if she took down a kingdom with her. It's only when he felt his sister in the void that he rushed the long distance from Hallownest to Pharloom to go and save her.

I don't think he is trapped in the Void or anything. He clearly lifts Hornet and Lace out of the Void in the ending and places them gently on the ground, so he can clearly leave the realm to some extent. He probably just doesn't care. His task is complete, he killed the Radiance and he's got nothing left to do.

God, how are you people so bad at understanding the lore?
The Weavers ruled for an unspecified amount of time after they sealed GMS but then they gave up their rule (probably because they saw signs of the haunting) and the Conductors took over who then ruled for an unspecified amount of time too. Pharloom has a long history and GMS's rule is only a small part of it.
Also, Widow was most likely mutilated by the Citadel under the Conductor's control.

I think it makes the most sense.
>GMS can produce silk on her own so she wouldn't need a half-weaver she's never met before
>Conductors have access to The Cradle too
>Granny Silk is still in her cocoon before Hornet shows up
>Those afflicted with the Haunting aren't capable of speaking or higher thought, which is why she couldn't break herself out early
>Conductors need silk to keep Pharloom running, but they can't have Silk produce more silk because she'd kill them, so thus they'd need to kidnap other Weavers
>The only ones who have access to The Cradle are those who know the Threefold Melody, of which 1/3rd is only remembered by the Conductors

The thing that seals it for me is that even if Silk sent out the Reeds and Choir members to Hallownest, they would've stopped being affected by The Haunting and would have no reason to fight Hornet to the death to kidnap her.

There's also the simple fact that the Weavers wanted someone to come kick GMS's ass and set up all the bind monuments to aid a descendent in acquiring the skill necessary to do so, and then left the Citadel in the hands of the lower bugs like the Conductors presumably to continue that pursuit. Conductors are trying to bring Weaver descendants to see if one of them is strong enough to finish the job, and finally find one.

They’re loyal to the faith of the song. What the Citadel commands, they obey. That much is made SUPER explicit. Silk’s control doesn’t need to reach far for her influence to reach far.

Consider: if Silk’s haunted puppets aren’t capable of (through some chain of inception, at least) rational and complex planning, how the fuck did they make Lace and Phantom? They aren’t born of magic, we see the fucking vat Phantom was incubated in. And if Silk WASN’T their creator… why the fuck were the Conductors making sentient silk daughters for GMS of their own volition? Ostensibly they needed the silk for themselves.

Recovering, but still damaged. Dirtmouth is growing steadily by the end of the game. White Lady, Unn, Hollow Knight, Bardoon, The Knight, and especially Hornet are still around to help it rebuild. City of Tears is practically free real estate. The Mantises, Weavers, and Bees are still hanging on in their corners.

I'd imagine Hornet, or one of her Siblings, would end up becoming the new Pale Monarch of Hallownest and start rebuilding it. Maybe not be as hands-on of a ruler as the Pale King, but certainly at least keep the land safe.

Assuming Lace is the one that does free her (the only evidence for that is the butterflies but they're controlled by anyone with music) then that's evidence in favour of GMS ordering the descendants captured, because Lace is acting against GMS' will.

Lace and Phantom are independent beings who are made of Silk, and they aren't truly connected to their mother like everyone who is Haunted is. That's why Lace is able to rebel against Silk and cut her arm off.
>They’re loyal to the faith of the song.
And who started the Chorus? That's right, the Conductors. The Chorus is supposed to keep Granny Silk asleep so it needs to be sung 24/7 to stop her from breaking out. The reason the Haunting happens is the Chorus stops and Silk gets some of her powers back.

The butterflies are former souls spun entirely into living silk. They’re the final step of the unravelled-esque monstrosities that are more silk than bug. They’re commanded via silk controlling magic, not music. Hornet doesn’t control them with a bitchin solo, she controls them because the needolin allows her to access the mind of living beings. Flying towards an exit in the mist is their version of “inner monologue appears on screen”. This is confirmed in a secret area in whiteward (IIRC). Every cogwork entity, every lamp, every minor “powered” thing in the citadel is using the souls of sacrificed bugs as basically a 9V battery.

Lace can control them at will, she demonstrates it often. Perhaps the Conductors can to some extent as well. In some ways, music is the “language of silk”, if it can subdue GMS it can probably control butterflies too. But the ability to command/control silk is what ultimately matters.

>Lace and Phantom are independent beings who are made of Silk, and they aren't truly connected to their mother
But who made them? Again, we see Phantom’s incubation chamber in Exhaust Organ. Some team of silk scientists built that. That only makes sense if GMS’ influence can lead bugs to carrying out complex tasks on her behalf

>And who started the Chorus? That's right, the Conductors
The Weavers, anon. The Weavers. The Conductors are a CASTE of the Chorus, charged with perpetuating and overseeing it. They are the CEOs, the Weavers are the owners. They employ the Conductors to ensure the song continues to operate. The Weavers built the entirety of the society of the song and the Conductors were entrusted with its execution.

When the Weavers fucked off because Silk was basically sleep-talking them to death, the Conductors were stuck. They knew they HAD to perpetuate the song, even though the Weavers were gone, because if they did, Silk would awaken. But the song was dreamt up under Weaver rule. The idea of building a society around a magic lullaby to roofie a god forever was a Weaver design. The Conductors just got stuck holding the steering wheel.

Phantom has a soul vat similar to Eve's so I'm guessing the Weavers created her by spinning soul into silk, but i think she IS suffering from the haunting, since she has gone insane (or GMS made her imperfectly and the Weavers made the vat for her to keep her from unravelling further?)
they tried to artificially create life again but without Silk and managed to create Eva, but she is essentially a pure soul without a vessel, and would die instantly if the vat was opened

Lace considers Phantom a sister but GMS does not seem to care about her at all, GMS only considers Lace her daughter
presumably GMS spun Lace herself after she was imprisoned

>>723522396
the butterflies come from bugs that have been implanted with silk and lived for a long time
i think the implication is that the bugs soak up divinity from the silk to extend their lives, but the silk simultaneously soaks up their souls and comes alive

music only subdues GMS because the chorus the bugs sing is actually part of the Weavers' ancestral silk art, every time they sing they are resonating with the silk in their bodies and reinforcing the spell keeping her asleep
