The lion guy was pretty good. Wasn't the final final boss only an optional thing if you collected all the right shit, I can see why it was just kinda bleh if it was something most players wouldn't get. I remember I first-attempted it after fighting the lion guy many times.
I really liked the second form of the knight guy with a nasty berserker phase that was the boss before the lion guy IIRC.
