In BR the last man standing wins. In extraction you search the map for valuables and when your inventory is full or you are running out of resources to stay alive you try to reach a point on the map where you can leave the area. Resources are used to upgrade your base and prepare for higher risk runs.

extraction shooters are a similarly large and detailed map, but there are much less players, there is no shrinking zone, and you can often "extract" to store your loot when you want regardless of pvp happening or not, most of these games involve some PvPvE, in this game in particular PVE is pretty important and major.
in extraction games you also get to loot other players and shit, loot actually matters unlike in BR where you just spawn in and get some gun off the ground and shoot other people with it and repeat.

Mediocre, the shooting doesn't feel good. The game looks and runs well, the sound design is fantastic but man is it just not satisfying to kill shit

For some reason they have mechanics that incentivize some of the most unfun things about extraction games and I have no idea why it was designed like that. Stuff like extraction camping, camping in general, and getting third partied.

I hate getting third partied in these types games but I can live with it happening every once in a while for the risk factor but in arc raiders for some reason they added some stupid mechanic that when you down someone it shoots a flare into the sky that everyone on the map can see. God forbid it's your teammate and you have not only the original team on your ass but everyone else trying to pick you off as well.

The extraction has just as stupid of a mechanic. In Hunt at the extract you can literally just run up and find a good position to defend and get out within 30 seconds which is great. In Arc Raiders it sets off an alarm that everyone within 300m can hear and also brings a few robots to your position that you have to deal with. Then you have to wait for what feels like forever for the damn door to open and then also interact with a console for 10 seconds that the robots can knock you off of. What do you think is likely to also happen when all that other bullshit is going on?

Also you can imagine how third person view is easily abused in these types of ambushy, campy games as well. It's basically impossible to see someone sitting in a bush but they can scan 360 with ease. Or just sit at the end of a hallway and wait for someone to get in an inescapable position. You get the idea.

It's crazy the amount of times I approach an extract and suddenly get shot by 2 snipers simultaneously from some bushes, I quickly look around but can't see shit because they are already completely still in the bush watching me as they load another round. It's bullshit when I think about it because in over 1000 hours of Hunt I've never died at extract.

DICE is a development studio that split up. Embark are the guys who left dice because it wasn't lefty enough for them and they wanted to make fat troon games with destruction physics with Chinese money. They came up with the finals, forgot to put anticheat in it, and it flopped.

I think I the perfect solution to "extraction shooters" is allowing "stealth maxxing" where the stealthier your build is the less lethal you are. Basically become a "true scav" and prioritize siccing enemy NPCs or teams against one another to pilfer off the remains or escape a no win situation. That way you can assemble a combat focused build without constantly risking your best gear and weapons. Basically reward players for taking less damage every run instead of dealing damage. It might even instigate players interacting beyond KOS mentality.

Will watch a map or two. Don't really like these games and have tried several (free) ones. I always think I would have more fun PvEing by myself or co-op but its rarely an option. I wish Planetside could just add maps/bases with gametypes like this.

This happened a handful of times when I played Ring of Elysium. If I did four-man team with randoms then lost all my teammates I basically would hide in bushes and behind rocks or prone in the snow while wearing grey+blue clothes. I would shoot at full teams then have two different teams duke it out thanks to my random potshots making them aware of pen another. Sometimes on extract I would holster my weapon and try to talk the other player down which worked 1 out 5 times I did it.

I mean, it FEELS good. But there's just nothing to make you WANT to play. Watch a streamer play it for a bit...it looks way more boring then it plays, but even then...you can't really fight the bots which is where the fun would be, because you don't have enough ammo and yours guns are shit, and you can't really fix that because you HAVE to fight the bots to get to extract.

Big difference is that fighting robots will attract 3rd party and fighting robots is pretty much discouraged a lot given starter gear is complete ass and the robots can swarm hard. Which then leads to depleting resources thin which leads to not being able to fight raiders which then leads to.... you get my point. PvE games don't have this issue since everyone is on the same team. Here I have to worry about not wasting my ammo on robots that take a lot of fucking bullets to kill AND also be sure not to get clipped from behind.

I liked the opening cutscene. And making my character. The actual game is boring time wasting. "Wander aimlessly through this giant world toward some shit marked for you on the map," is just tedious. I dont get the appeal. Oh and pause to loot crates along the way for deflated soccer balls and bandages and other stupid shit. Loot right now is kind of pointless because they locked all the upgrades for some reason. In TT2 90% of the gameplay loot is hoarding and looking for stuff to upgrade your crafting benches and crafting upgrades and shit but since it's all locked looting is pretty much pointless. Case in point crafting Hatch Keys is pretty important but you can't work up to that. Think they definitely shot themselves in the foot by limiting the progression so much that people don't even get a feel for the gameplay loop.
