CV64 is heavily inspired by Tomb Raider's game design, but it is much, much worse. Worse controls, camera, level design, etc. I am still very found of the game because of its great atmosphere, but it is absolutely not a great game.

Lecarde Chronicles 2 is pretty cool. More of the same from Chronicles of the Wolf. I'm a little torn on the greater relative challenge; while nice on its own, some of it seems extended from movement as a whole being more inhibited. The newer game just feels overall a lot smoother.

Played this game again last night and, yes, it still holds up. I am playing through hard mode tonight, then I will play Legacy of Darkness after that.
My current opinion (I have played LoD a few times, but not in the last few years) is that LoD is the inferior way to play the game, the controls are a downgrade and the stages it changes/adds do not improve on the base game with the exception of the clock tower. But I am open to changing my mind if the experience is different this time.

It honestly is one of the better ones once you get used to the controls. Good atmosphere, good length, decent characters (Carrie a cute 10/10) and good replayability. I think it's better than the enhanced version with the wolfman. he was boring af to play as, and they nerfed the other characters' levels too.

I have to confess. . . I have started to like the filtered blurry textures of the N64 more than the jaggy ones of the PS1 recently.

Its honestly quite a replayable game. What makes it so charming is each level is uniquely designed. Is every level a winner? No. But each one is distinct enough. The same can't be said of Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness. And you can get a few more levels in the form of Legacy of Darkness through Cornell.

Honestly with a few tweaks this game could be much better appreciated.

I like Carrie but I don't like her story. I don't care about her off screen step mother that we don't know about randomly sacrificing herself. And Carrie's rival battle against her cousin is lackluster compared to the Rosa duel with Reinhardt. Carrie had potential but her story is lacking. Even Cornell has a better story.

I agree wholeheartedly as someone who played the 64 games for the first time recently. LoD is a pointless expansion and Cornell's campaign isn't worth depriving yourself of Reinhardt/Carrie areas. He doesn't even have a unique story or his own cutscenes.

What bothers me about the Art Tower level is that it has nothing to do with art itself. You can get so much horror material from the theme of art but nothing. Let me put it to you like this, the Art Mansion from Final Fantasy 6 optional dungeon with the haunted demon painting boss fight felt more fitting for Castlevania than the Art Tower level.

And more status effects. I think Castlevania really failed to maximize this as it makes enemies more unique. Imagine for example a mini status effect? Or one that turns to stone? Also vampire status effect should award you a few benefits like vampires not attacking you anymore since you're one of them.

Cornell is evil.
Victor the final Belmont chooses to die trusting Dracula his lifelong enemy on a whim without leaving an heir.
Dracula kills Satan using a literal worthless damaged Non Divine weapon (the shattered combat cross).
Trevor is also Alucard.
The ending has Dracula/Gabriel breaking his promise to his wife to return to her after finishing his battle with Satan.

And it piles up. The story had the makings of something good but it really gets too many little things wrong and it becomes bothersome. Real shame because certain things I liked, like how Death did not serve Dracula because that has never made any sense at all.

Sounds like Renon works for the demon Mammon since he literally mentions about making contracts with Satan. If Renon worships gold and currency then his boss is Mammon/Greed. Renon is honestly the best merchant character in the franchise. Never liked Rinaldo as a shopkeep and the others? Meh.

Something I truly want out of a remake is a duo campaign that is Reinhardt actually interacting with Carrie. We know Reinhardt is a softie who has reservations about fighting women and children, that is he will do it when forced. But Carrie is not like that.
