Just finished it. It's a 7/10 that's actually brought down to a 5/10 because you people hype it so much.
The story is boring, the job system and leveling mechanics are not fun to engage with, permadeath but still incentivizing save-scumming is retarded, only 5 units max in a fight and so on and so forth.

Overrated. They should had just dropped the rom on PS Plus and called it a day.
If you want a game with a much better story and combat mechanics, just play Triangle Strategy.

Because you go in expecting a masterpiece and you just find an ok game. It's like when people hype up The Godfather as THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE. Like, the best? I mean, it's up there, but you create so much expectation in someone's head that there's no way a movie can live up to that kind of expectation.

That's how i felt about FFT. I've heard people sing it's praises for so long that now, when i finally got around to playing it, i could see that it's actually not this amazing game people told me it was. It's good, it isn't great. But going in expecting a GREAT game made it even more obvious to me it's shortcomings as a SRPG.

Awful opinion. The one game worse. TS isn't bad, just mid to the core, and no permadeath again.

Overall I loved it. Not worth a poorfags 50 but for a grown man the new dialogue is the best Ive seen in a videogame, blew me away. Turn order and magic upgrading made it feel like a new game.

Ok, so as someone who plays shit ton of JRPGs every year i'm supposed to pretend this game had some amazing plot with unexpect twists and turns?
In Triangle Strategy you have multiple different endings, branching paths, you can side with one side and then they turn on you regardless because everyone wants to take control of everything. Fuck, the mission where you decide to burn your own village to stop an invading army? Kino as fuck. I didn't see anything like that in FFT, it's a straight-foward story.

Well, then i guess we can agree on something. I don't even know if i would like it pre-2017, but i wouldn't have cared because it would be me playing a PS1 game, this one is a remake that could have made the game a bit more interesting and up to date when it comes to the gameplay department.
Honestly, they could have showed this game much more love than they did. Give the classic experience to the people who played the PS1 game and then make IC it's own thing with multiple endings and this and that.

Buffs/Raise missing
Huge grind to level jobs, incentivizing the same 4-5 every map
The entire Zodiac gimmick
Unique units having fixed sprites instead of per job

I think it's fair to a degree, but I find it really TIRING to remind people that these games people liked in the past (like FFT, Chrono Trigger, etc) are highly praised for the time, context, and era they were most relevant in. In the context that internet and choice of games were much more limited compared to now, of course people are going to love and praise it if your options and worldview is confined to a smaller context. If you compare it to how things have evolved NOW of course it isn't that great as people hype it up to be. It should be no surprise and I don't understand why alpha/zoomers don't understand this very basic concept of historical context.

idk man, aside from being able to think of ways pretty much every one of those jobs has abilities that can be useful, I think the game is still fun even if you don't force yourself to play optimally. sub-optimal job synergies can still be really cool. right now I'm playing a Lancer with a doublehanded spear, and when I get some good jump abilities I'm gonna put on Equip Axe, since Jump guarantees the full axe damage. the game would be boring if every class had its own version of Martial Arts + Ninja.

I'm halfway on board with you...all the way till Triangle Strategy. I was board to tears with Triangle Strategy. FF Tactics had a linear story that didn't pretend to have multiple endings. While Triangle Strategy endings left me going, "That's it? That's what I worked for?"
FF Tactics for nostalgia so I'll give it 7/10. Triangle Strategy 3/10 for no customization and lack of story.

a way of choosing your difficulty before this remaster added them; you can play on "easy" where you just let your characters die, or you can play on "normal" which means getting through the game with no one dying.

Triangle Strategy is okay. Not a top tier tactical RPG but a fine one. I think people are too hard on it because they go into it expecting it to play exactly like FFT and not accepting it for what it is. The Golden Route is fucking dumb though.

In Chapter 2 Ramza has absolutely no reason to believe Zalbag has any kind of good nature. He killed his best friend sister right in front of him, a girl he supposedly also cherished, and yet in Chapter 2, he still "trusts" him enough to leave Alma with him. Yes, it turned out he was right, but what reason he had to think that after what he had done? There were also a lot of incomplete character development arcs like Mustadio and Agrias that although more depth were given in future games, in the vanilla version they were left unexplored.

Easily 10/10. Gameplay, story and worldbuilding are all excellent and the game looks great.
Triangle Strategy didn't appeal to me at all but this game has me hooked. It's the Final Fantasy and Job aspects that really make it.

Nothing beats arithmetician, but if you want something that synergizes with the absurd speed, MA, and HP that her unique job has, samurai is pretty good.
Doesn't rely on equipped weapons, she'll always go first and be able to protect/shell your whole party before you split up. You have to be in the thick of things to aoe targets as samurai, so the hp is welcome and with her MA + arcane strength she will hit the damage cap with chirijiraden
