Oldfag here. I'm so glad the online play wasn't a thing when I was a kid. I definitely would have shot up a school if I was bullied online. I'd probably get groomed and troon out, too. The internet was a mistake.

I remember some guy losing his shit at me for l4d2 vs because I had tank. I asked him how to give it up and he just went further down his melty. I'm 26 now and looking back I just find it weird.

It's always been a thing to some degree, but I think it really became an epidemic after Xbox Live took off. Kids and teens now had an affordable and fully retard accessible portal to the internet. Steam blowing up with the Orange Box wasn't long after. It marks the era where the internet stopped being a niche hobbyist and businessman watering hole and become the latest toy for normies. It's no surprise really that it came with a huge dip in the quality of online discourse.

The only time an adult screamed at me in a game when I was a kid was when I was beating the shit out of the owner of a TF2 server at pyro tennis. He kicked me, too.
I never played online games on Xbox Live when I was a kid, and I think that’s why I was spared the ire of especially unhinged adults.

CS2 competitive is hell on earth. You can be in Silver ranks and play against either cheaters, smurfs, a 5 stack where they have a MG or DMG on their team while the other 4 are unranked/Silver 1, or on the very, very rare occasion, actual Silver players (who should be many leagues higher but are hardstuck).
