I really have no idea who hard games are for. Back in the 90s, sure, hard games gave you a bit more value out of a game which could probably be beaten in one sitting if it wasn't so hard. That would suck, since we only got new games for our birthday and Christmas. Also useful for developers, since making the player replay the same part over and over, meant you needed less assets and could use smaller, cheaper EPROMs.
But why are they still around today? We have more games than we could ever hope to finish thanks to Steam. There's no need to artificially extend the runtime of a game with difficulty, you can just start a new game if you finish it. So who are they for? The only people I can think of, are people who are looking to have some kind of accomplishment to make up for the fact they feel like they don't have anything like this in their real lives.

It amazes me how angry some people are over this game. There's a concentrated effort from several groups to try and stop it being discussed on this board.

What type of people would want to stop a video game being discussed on a video game board?

Any truthful answer will get you called a schizo, but refer to the leak which indicated certain intelligence agencies wanted to make places like this "less interesting" without outright killing them.

Honestly, I found Silksong easier than Hollow Knight. I don't know why people are complaining.

Well it depends. The first patch made a ton of things that do 2 damage start doing 1 instead, which is a huge change to early survival when you're on 5 hp. This wasn't just environmental hazards either, a bunch of enemies and certain attacks were also reduced from 2 to 1. I can understand that version of the game frustrating some people who aren't used to platformers.

Also, depends what you mean with the first game. The vast majority of the first game is extremely easy and forgiving. It was only really godhome where it got rough, which was a dlc that I bet a lot of people skipped. As a result they only remember the easy regular game of HK

I mean that nothing comes close to the path of pain, which isn't that hard once you've done it once.

I really have no idea who easy games are for. Back in the 90s, sure, easy games were great for younger kids just learning to play, or for letting a friend have a turn without getting frustrated. That made sense, since games were often a shared experience and you didn't want anyone to feel left out. Also useful for developers, since making a game accessible to a wider audience meant you could sell more copies and build a bigger, more loyal fanbase.
But why are they still around today? We have more ways to learn and access games than ever before thanks to YouTube tutorials and endless wikis. There's no need to remove all sense of challenge and consequence from a game, you can just lower the difficulty if you get stuck. So who are they for? The only people I can think of, are people who are looking to have some kind of effortless power fantasy to make up for the fact they feel like they don't have anything like this in their real lives.
