Vampire Survivors was released in OCT 2022, 3 years ago. The trend still has yet to end. We are living for better or worse in the golden age, or dark age, of Survivor clones. Since the original is objectively just a lazy shitpost, it is easily overshadowed by basically any imitator, even other shitposts oftentimes.

So /v/, what is the best survivors-like clone or influenced game out right now in YOUR opinion? Who won?

I wont shill anything since I'm OP. But this thread is not for hating on survivors; That is IMPLIED simply by talking about this genre. I hate it, as do you. BUT. Which one is the best?

Rogue Genesia, only game I know of that if you somehow get the exp for it you could literally get every single item in the game on a single run. Fun to just get all of the meta progression. If for some reason you are the type of faggot who can't play without a cheat engine trainer running in the background the game comes with a super casual mode that literally make it so you can't die until you complete the given run (include survival where it is in effect until after you kill the final boss). The dev understand what players want.

If you like to grind like crazy for minor meta progression then Soulstone exist. The game itself is boring as hell but if you were stuck on an island with a single game I would personally recommend Terraria or something else first but Soulstone would nevertheless last you for a good bit as a choice. Taking forever to 100% is like the only praise I can give it, maybe that is enough for some people who cares about price to time spent playing ratio.

Consider first that every description in this game, especially for enemies, is an over the top parody or satire. Every thing is being lampooned. It seems to you like it's celebrating trannies, but is it? Why are there no tranny survivors? Just a tranny enemy? You've acked 128k of them. Why is the game letting you murder a tranny mook?

Looked into it. $15. Steep starting price compared to the competition, but the trailers on the store page make it look really good.
Though with that said, VS comes with a deceptively massive amount of content for just the base game, and the DLCs add a lot of value, too.

VS isn't exactly my favorite genre, but of the games I've tried from it, that game manages to be the best with gameplay. It's all thanks to how ridiculous you can make your build thanks to all the weapon evolutions or combining, none of the other games I've tried has managed to do it as well. Megabonk especially, the memes are whatever but the weapons in it are just not as fun to use.

My issue with megabonk so far is all other characters seem to be garbage compared to the skateboard skeleton and if you don't get projectile tome within the first two level ups you may as well restart. Vampire Surviors seemed to have at least better balanced weapons, in megabonk half of it is absolute crap.

Kind of? I think there's more to it. I always had an issue with VS in that their were few abilities you could activate (spells, skillshots etc) and at first I thought then it would just be an ARPG with that.

But I think one of the core components is also

1. Near endless arena to move through
2. Combat never ends.

I started this thread because Im looking for games that build on VS to be more... I dunno less stripped down. Or maybe just to see what I missed out on. Theres so many I find one and then another and they both look great but maybe not the best?

Chicken darkana, level up drops darkana and fireworks pretty much just shatter the game
But the opposite issue is in the similar games, it's a fucking nightmare to even try to do that because there's so much fucking garbage you have to shift through and by the time you can filter anything you've already exhausted most the game

The graphics were pretty much the best thing about it from what I tried. It feels somehow like you are even slower than in VS, and the enemy balance at start feels weird since you can't instakill the first enemy type with one attack. The weapon upgrade system shows some promise but it did not feel as impactful like it does in VS unfortunately.

Megabonk is easily my favorite from the movement alone, but right now it's a bit too barebones.
It needs

>buff shittier characters
>buff like 90% of the weapons (game is way too item reliant)
>possibly add static items to maps
>add weapon/tome combos (like vsurv)
And it would be really great.
Bhopping is just too fun and is for chads, none of the 2ds or isos will ever beat that.

My best run so far and it was absolutely fucking garbage on tier 1 with getting almost not a single good item until tier 2, but then all of a sudden I got the best luck in the world and ended up in the top 1000. The crummy part is knowing if I just had a little better luck or vendors on the tier 1 map I probably would have got into the top 5 on the leaderboard.

I played Vampire Survivors for 18 hours before I came to my senses and realized that I was stuck in one of the most mindless activities I have ever devoted my life to. I deleted the game and wrote a negative review on Steam explaining that it's basically digital addiction, where you get stuck in a task that requires no skill, decision-making, or thinking, purely a mechanical quest for more numbers and unlocking more junk.
People who make superficial criticisms of video games, equating them to addictions, have never been right, except in the case of Vampire Survivors, the most degenerate game ever released, something that is objectively bad for humanity.

These games have lots of layers of abstraction that make it easier to accept. But what VS is going for - the insanely basic loop of making numbers go up so you get stuff that makes different numbers go up, with an element of gambling/randomness so you can't fully know what's going to happen next - is the same basic concept any of those games, and many more have, except completely torn down to the studs. If you really wanted to I feel you could almost define games by how many layers of abstraction are between them and the most basic core of what makes 'compelling' (addictive) gameplay.

Survivor games are just time killers while I am doing nothing anon. Its there to kill time while waging, or on public transports, or while on the shitter. Do you fucking NEED your gamepad or sitting straight on a chair for a gameplay of just moving your character around? Mind you, you don't even need to be precise like in a real bullet hell. This is a game made to shut your brain and see numbers go up/open new shit. I can do that more freely on my phone while lying down than in front of a screen.

The difference is that basically every video game puts you in control. Vampire Survivors is the opposite: it controls you. It's basically a virtual drug. These games are misunderstood by literally everybody including the developers.

The appeal comes from daisy chaining multiple strategies into a run such that you finish several quests at once, sometimes simultaneously.

It has nothing to do with "meta progression" either. It's the fact that you're given an extremely broad checklist and can tackle it in a borderline non linear fashion. Survivorlikes are unironically super replayable because of how open ended they are.

Holocure is free and a better experience than the inspiration, as well as every other clone I've tried. Last update added a bunch of optional minigames and management stuff for spice. Even has a fucking fleshed-out Jump King clone in it now, lmao.
