It is kind of fucked up how far Nintendo is willing to go to protect their IPs from damn near every external threat, real or not, but they seem to just be sitting on their hands when it comes to GameFreak consistently fumbling and mishandling their single most profitable franchise.
I guess they just won't really give too much of a shit until it starts significantly affecting the merchandise sales.

That's exactly my point. I doubt it's affected their profits much, but there has been a growing amount of mainstream vitriol towards the quality of the Pokemon games in recent years, to the point that Nintendo felt the need to apologize for the state that Scarlet and Violet were in at launch, and to get other devs to help them.
GameFreak's incompetence is damaging Nintendo's image, and it's only going to keep getting worse until they remove GameFreak's control over the Pokemon games and throw them to the curb.

The game is somewhat of a mixed bag that got blown into the worst game of the year for some damn reason. Main issue that's actually worth hitting down hard on is the price. Could have been $50 and felt more applicable as a smaller project than a new gen game.
