>FROM THE ORIGINAL DEVS* OF [game] COMES THE SPIRITUAL SUCCESSOR YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR

*ONE guy on the team was a junior Q&A assistant on the original game

It's because nobody reads credits. They get away with it because people are stupid and lazy.

There's a lot of shit devs and publishers do that would be illegal and punished in ANY other industry.
Like straight up lying about sales numbers because they can't be punished for it by anyone.

>From the developers of GAME comes GAME 4
>GAME 5 is a return to form
>GAME 6 returns to the classic GAME formula
>GAME 7 is made for fans of the original GAME
>the studio was bought out 30 years ago and the last game any of the original devs worked on was GAME 2

This happened with Yooka-Laylee, The Outer Worlds, Back 4 Blood, Mighty No 9 and Broken Age and they all came out pretty shoddily, isn't that something. I guess Mighty Gunvolt Burst was pretty good but that's all I can think of out of this list.

This is the funniest with Disco Elysium because there's around 6 to 8 games releasing in the next 3 years from different developers that all claim this

Anyways, I wish this was the case with Outer Worlds, but unfortunately, that one really deserves the marketing it gets. Literally the two lead designers on the original Fallout and it's a pile of shit.

Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky were the main guys behind Fallout 1, my man.
What that example shows in particular is that the quality of your leads doesn't matter if your actually ant workers are gonna turd it up.

Okay, but evidently all that is worthless if the setting, characterisation and idea behind the game are all shit. Yooka Laylee felt like a Banjo ripoff where literally everything in it was designed to be nostalgic, but not entertaining or worthwhile.

And TOW was rubbish still. Goes to show it's the team, not one guy, responsible for a good game.

>lead designer of a beloved game makes its "spiritual successor"
>it's shit because at his original studio he had a horde of tard wranglers making sure only his good ideas got into the game but now he's doing whatever the fuck he wants and has too much clout for anyone to tell him no

Boyarsky's art in Outer Worlds is still great so he hasn't missed a beat. Those loading screens are the best part about that game. And the moon head's design would genuinely be iconic if it were in a good game instead of a mediocre one.

I have no idea what your point is. TOW marketed itself by being made by the studio that made New Vegas while barely anyone who worked on it still worked at Obsidian at the time, and the few who did were barely involved. They did get the FO1 guys to work on it, that's actually true, but considering how forgettable the end result is it doesn't count for much.

He did a fine job, I do like the style they were going for with TOW but sadly the game just didn't become iconic like FO did

Tim Cain shared a story on youtube about how he and Leonard Boyarsky were arguing very passionately about something with Outer Worlds and the devs under them felt threatened and uncomfortable and at some point talked to HR about it, so Tim Cain had to start having those heated discussions in his closed office where no one but the boomerest of boomers would dare come in.

Discussions like those were literally crucial to moments like Fallout 1's ending, which Tim Cain was originally against, for example. And now they have a bunch of women writers and overall millennial/zoomer devs that are too afraid of any confrontation and it's no wonder everything is so sterile.

Modern developers are spineless faggots, this is true. Developers in the old days would have arguments all the time because they were passionate about their job and gave a shit about what they were putting out. Just read Andy Gavin's blogposts about developing the first Crash Bandicoot, it's a relatively simple platformer but they still fought over everything. Despite that they still put out classic games that are still beloved today. Compared to Crash or Fallout 1, I doubt anyone will remember TOW1 in 2039.
