I don't know guys. From what I have seen, Ninja Gaiden 4 looks to be a breath of fresh air. However, Ninja Gaiden 4 is not "Ninja Gaiden". I don't know how helpful you'll find this but here's the contents of my xenia-canary config which works fine. Don't notice sound desync and it runs at a silky 60fps. Though I have a 5070ti so I dunno how well this works if you have an older gpu. I pieced this together from a few youtube tutorials, reddit thread etc. Hope this works for you.

Just a tip for anyone struggling with bosses in NG2 on account of offscreen minions, remember you can lock on and off of bosses with RB. Turning the 3rd person camera speed all the way up has also helped me a lot. RT to recenter your camera is also helpful here, and in every NG game. If no enemy is on screen and you want to immediately focus your camera in the direction of them, you can throw a shurikan for a quick attack, and hit rt, and you'll be facing them. I haven't used that much but it's a viable tip.

What's nice about NG4 is that beating the game one unlocks MN's chapter challenge, so you can start playing as Ryu in all the stages on MN after the first playthrough.

For Karma and Speedruns, Ryu is the best. For making combo videos, Yakumo is the best. But if the DLC gives Ryu weapon swapping, then he'll be cucking Yakumo out of his one gimmick.

The physical version of NG2 (2008) was indeed published by MS, which can be backed up by release data in stuff like mobygames, gamefaqs or wikipedia (meaning old sources).
But remember, 360 initially didn't have downloadable full games (that would be called Games on Demand) - And this is where the confusion comes from, because years later, when NG2 was put on GoD then it was no longer published by MS but by Tecmo.
Also, NG2 was delisted from Xbox marketplace before it was put on backwards compat list, meaning that in that time they could have also changed the publishing rights of the digital version.

Since different styles have parry frames that happen at different times, be it immediately when the Y button is pressed or 10 frames after press, you'll know by your animation. I personally think Sigma 1 is the best way to get into the series. It streamlines certain parts of NGB, fun combat, is easier which is good for newcomers, easily accessible, tons of content, leaderboards, cheap, etc. You can use mods to change that ugly Grips of Murder costume and hide helmets. The only major downside is Rachel missions, but her shit is easy to cheese especially with how short her missions are.

NG2 is complicated. Vanilla 2 has terrible bosses. Sigma 2 has awful balance in Master Ninja mode and terrible Tag Missions. Black 2 culls the awful bosses but keeps the awful Tag Missions, removed Ninja Run, didn't bring back WS, removed leaderboards and removed several costumes. There really isn't a definitive NG2. If NG2B did the following in addition to having removed the shitty bosses, I'd personally recommend it over the other versions:

>removed Tag Missions
>kept Ninja Run
>kept leaderboards
>kept ALL costumes from all versions of NG2
>brought back NG2's missions
Had it done all that, I would argue tooth and nail that NG2B is the best version. But that's not the case sadly. As it stands, Vanilla 2 is the best verion, but only because of its DLC content.

Thinking about it now, it's crazy how Ninja Gaiden relies on DLC and rereleases.

For me and for many other fans NG2 has infinite replay value. Most action games (including Ninja Gaiden: Black) eventually run out of ways to challenge you. But no matter how many hours I pour into NG2, no matter how many years pass, it still bites back. I can still die. That alone makes it a rare experience, a game that never stops testing you.
On Master Ninja, NG2 is a constant tug-of-war between stuns and i-frames.
You’re always trying to stun enemies — it’s the only way to catch your breath and stop them from striking. Grabs are the most obvious danger, especially from limbless enemies who explode when they go down. Even worse are the Incendiary Shurikens; enemies love to spam those. You can counter with your own shurikens while jumping or dashing, though there are plenty of other ways to apply stuns too.
I-frames are your most precious resource. You gain them through jump attacks, Ultimate Techniques, or Obliteration Techniques. The most reliable option is the OT you get from finishing off a delimbed enemy, but positioning matters, and a mistimed move can get you grabbed and killed instantly. Still, OTs offer both instant kills and i-frames, so it’s worth aiming to delimb foes whenever possible.
Above all, you want to stay mobile, always moving, always canceling recovery with shurikens or landing techniques to keep the flow going.
NG2 animations are TIGHT, I still go "Fuck that shit was sick" when i'm playing.

It might not happen for you, maybe you just hate the style of action NG brings in general or maybe you should go back and give it another go, if you are expecting high level NG to be like high level DMC though I promise you that's not what you will find here, it's very different and that's why I and many others love it kek. You will see anons bring up the "back and forth" or "none stop fighting" or "tug of war" or "kill faster than they can kill you" and that's really one of the biggest selling points for most.

I'll just try NG2 then. I did Sigma 1 only like 2 years ago and already know that I won't discover any joy. I wrote the rest of the 3D games off after 1 but we'll see. Thanks for the thorough explanations.
