How come gamers get excited for arriving back to a familiar land 30 years ago, but when we get a throwback to that comfort there's a lot of dissatisfaction? I have to ask, did you even enjoy Breath of the Wild in the first place. The only sense to make out of it is if the complaints are coming from those who didn't actually enjoy Botw. The only people who didn't like going back to kanto are those who didn't enjoy Red, Blue, and Yellow.

Because, zippity zoom zoom, we got to go back to the Kanto as post-game content rather than it being the main content. Nobody would've complained about TotK being BotW dlc if it had an entirely new map that lets you go back to Hyrule at the end.

The main content in Totk is spread between the sky, the depths, AND hyrule overworld. The landscape being familiar is the bonus. They're entirely comparable. Is kanto the same as it was in Gold, Silver, Crystal as it is in Red, Blue, Yellow? no, and that is exactly the way it is in Totk and Botw.
