I don't remember who, but someone said recently that the Japanese game industry is stagnating because it's dominated by old executive types who all made games successful 10-20 years ago, but what worked then doesn't necessarily work now and those same devs won't step aside to allow the younger generation to step up.
I look at FF14 and I just think of how FF14 2.0 is now 12 years old and ff14 1.03 when Yoshida came on board is 14 years and 5 months old give or take a few months.
The reason I bring up that age is because still to this day Yoshida is talking in interviews about how amazing he is because he saved FF14 but that was older than some players of the game are and he's still talking about that like it happened yesterday.
The game desperately needs new blood at the top, a new vision, a bold vision for the game and it's not going to get that with a guy who moves at a glacial pace with his thinking.

Hiroi who wrote Dawntrail has been with the game since at least Heavensward and maybe older, he is responsible for the Archer and Bard questlines, he's not new blood.
Kate also is not new blood, she's been with the game since at least Stormblood that's more than 6 years.
That's my point, that's years and years but people see that as just a few months relatively speaking but it's not it's a huge time frame, I could gain 2 degrees within the time frame that Kate has been working at the game for example.

I would say the original idea they had for a follow on expansion after 7.0/ Dawntrail had to be scrapped due to how unpopular Dawntrail is forcing re-writes and basically a back to the drawing board situation which is going to delay the next expansion.
I remember reading an interview from last year from Yoshida saying he had to have the concept and outline of the story cemented by December of last year in order to give to the Chinese outsourcing team who are responsible for the CGI trailer.
Yet not a single word has been said since then on progress for the next expansion other than to confirm that the supposed job re-work for 8.0 isn't happening.

We're talking about Square Enix/ CS3 here, they weren't even able to offer that kind of gameplay for FF16 the combat was incredibly streamlined for one reason, the boss fights were scripted and they didn't want people to blow through their 'cinematic' boss fights too fast, they wanted people to be blown away by the spectacle and so reduced the gameplay options to the extent where if you did perform well in a boss fight they stopped you from doing dps to the boss and you had to sit there and watch the in game cutscene. I have no faith in them being able to offer options because their entire design philosophy around PVE demands jobs be tuned to Savage and Ultimate fights for their exact timings, which in turn creates a very boring experience to play if you're doing Normal content.

Endwalker he doesn't know how to stop putting these really obnoxious tracks that loop every 20 seconds, remember the moment in Labyrinthos where you now have to listen to the same looping music over and over and over the it's the hook for A song of hope and it just loops over, and over and over it drove me insane and if that wasn't bad enough in Ultima Thule he did the same fucking thing again with Close in the Distance which is fine as a one off track and great for MSQ but it just loops constantly when you are in that zone no matter what and it's torture to my ears when I hear the song now.
