As a cheap handheld is not bad but at that price point the performance will be limited for most stuff other than the less demanding consoles, which is okay if that's what you want but if you want more options for portable gaming (you can get some steam PC games running) then the Thor is still the best option.

I'm not going to lie, I did have some second thoughts because of the form factor but they still haven't released the specs and I doubt they're putting a modern Snapdragon on it in that price point so I still think the Thor is a better option, won't even mention the Ayaneo considering how bulky it is.

This is not going to be able to play 3DS games, just look at how choppy Rune Factory is and that's a fairly low end game. They're just doing it to show you that it technically can and maybe some stuff might be able to. It's also why the d-pad is on the top because this is a DS system first and foremost, not a 3DS system.

Regardless, no one should buy this specific version as it's Android-based. It's going to have tons of issues because of that and it already does in their test footage by having quite a lot of lag when playing Kirby Canvas Curse. There's supposed to be a Linux version coming soon after it and that's the important one to consider.

In the first fucking 10 seconds it stuttered on 3DS. Even the steam deck can't play 3DS emulation without audio slowdown when loading shit and a shit ton of async shader cache is the only way to get a halfway decent smooth experience. If you have a game that's constantly changing scenes it will be a pop in mess.

3DS emulation sucks. We dont want chink handhelds, we want IPS full color screen upgrades at 300 nit for the original 3ds and 2ds.

L and R don't have the same clicky press, it's a soft push with very slight travel instead which feels weird and takes some getting used to.
Start and Select are hard buttons instead of soft membranes.
The addition of ZL and ZR where the cartridge slot is means you will want to rebind L and R to them because it is so much more comfortable than L and R's position and your fingers rest naturally on them while holding it whereas with L and R it feels more cramped and unnatural. It's honestly a game changer having those buttons there.
D-pad feels the same but the inputs are some of the worst on a d-pad I've ever used. Opening it up and doing the tape mod is mandatory if you want to use it in any serious capacity. If you are going to do it make sure you do it slightly away from the direct center and it's perfect.
Volume slider is those garbage ones you find every single Chinese company using for some reason instead of the gear thing so you flick the button instead of move a gear.
Screen looks incredible, especially when doing the 3x integer scaling.

I've done several games on it now and it's my favorite of my three Chinese handhelds by far. It's perfect for GBA and I prefer it over my RG35XX-SP but the tape mod is mandatory otherwise you shouldn't buy it.

The whole DS-3DS obsession with chinkhandhelds as of late seems stupid to me, I get they have to appeal to zoomers who now have disposable income and for whom this was their childhood, but why would you buy this?

I can understand GB, GBC and GBA, after all, the originals have shitty screens without modding, non-rechargeable batteries (except the SP), and you still need to buy a flash cart for games, so replicating the experience in the original hardware is kinda inconvenient. But DS and 3DS? They already have backlit screens, rechargeable batteries, and free or cheap (R4) solutions for pirating stuff, the hardware itself is still easy to get. The chinkhandheld is always gonna be inferior, either because shitty OS, shitty emulation, shitty aspect ratios, shitty QC or shitty d-pad with false diagonals, just play the real thing.

chink-ds clones are cool and I support them since used 3DS's are becoming increasingly more expensive as time goes on. I bought my (used) 3DS probably about five or six years ago now from Gamestop for $60 and I still play it occasionally

My old Note 8 could play up to PS2, super widescreen Spyro on PS1 looked and played fantastic too. I use the same controller on my Fold with MelonDS and it's dramatically better than my original DS or 3DS

As someone who has both a well worn OG ds and fairly new 3ds xl, both need new batteries. Plus you need to worry about buying something used site unseen that could have worn buttons, dead pixels, joystick drift on the 3ds. also 3ds OS is shit and full of bloat, using SD/mircoSD reader to manage the library is annoying. the homebrew setup is disjointed outside the emulators there's like 6 programs i use and i use them so infrequently i can never remember with is which.

A clean new 2 screen emulator that can run nes to 3ds with a simple user interface and usb port is worth a couple hundred bucks to me.
