If I wanted to play a Digimon game for the first time what would I play? The kick-ass cringecore movie is my main exposure to it, I remember that CYBERSLEUTH was seen as a watershed moment that digimon not only caught up to pokemon but actually surpassed it in a lot of ways, whilst being similar.

I have no idea about that new game people are posting all the time, I assume its a sequel to cybersleuth and I know literally nothing about the older games, did they also have waifumons and good graphics?

Digimon World 1. It has great backgrounds.

haven't played any since digimon world decades ago and don't remember anything about it except poop.
from what i understand the newer games are very visual novel type of things

The new one is the perfect entry point.
It's in the same series as the cyber sleuth games (Digimon Story) but it's standalone.
Highly recommend.
From there, play Digimon World 1 to get a taste of the heart of the Digimon World series, then just play the rest of the games in order of release.

Then you want the Digimon Story games.
The Digimon World games are 50% virtual pet.
The new game is a JRPG with monster collecting, no virtual pet.

It's only better than the new ones because its world is less linear and easier to navigate.
Anyway, have you ever touched a Tamagotchi? It's like that, but you can run around.

oh wow thats sick. It really reminds me of how forbidden memories had some SUPER interesting animations for it's monsters battling. Back when the franchises had only a few hundred monsters and could all be modeled and animated.
