There're build vids on youtube.
And the chiseling system allows for some neat stuff.

But, the rest of the game is pretty stark. If you use the default settings, you're basically never going to see the tropical animals/plants, so its just mile after mile of temperate woods/plains.
There're story missions and dungeons, but default, they have block protection.
The first boss is kinda bullshit, and I haven't done the second, but its heavily ranged dependant, and probably also bullshit.

The hostile mobs are alright, but combat is basically early minecraft, with the bow having draw and movement aim-fluctation.

At present, it basically requires mods, but it is easy to install and activate them.

its not that i want instant gratification its just that vintage story is obviously just a "what if" scenario of a minecraft total conversion
take knapping for example:
>find flint, granite, andesite, chert, basalt, peridotite or obsidian
flint is the easiest to find but the ground model has 23 different color variations so unless you know what you're looking for you'll be mousing over it and looking at the tooltip
>while holding the knappable stone, shift+rightclick on the ground to begin knapping EXCEPT with other stones you have to place one stone on the ground first and rightclick on it with the stone in your hand
>dialog box shows up with the options for which tool head you want to make
>click on knife
>now you have to click away on boxes in a 10x10 grid
if i have to select which tool head to make why doesnt it just give me the tool head anyway? does the game want me to roleplay making the item? if so why not make me carve out the item manually with no guide
>now you can combine the tool head with a stick in the crafting grid. flint can make axes, hoes, knives, shovels, spears and arrowheads. tools of flint or obsidian last longer than andesite, basalt, chert, granite or peridot
>bone handled tools have 10 extra points of durability
why even have these extra variants of tools then? why would i ever make an andesite knife if i can just walk around on the ground for a minute or two and find flint to make a longer lasting knife
this is all just tedious busywork to, like i said above, pad out the games runtime to make it seem deeper than it actually is
Anonymous No.723613576 [Report]
>>723613460
Wait wtf you can make tools using bones for handles for increased durability? I just keep massive piles of the things on the ground untill I can make bonemeal.

yeah the games not for you.

it doesnt make any sense why you would have a problem with lots of different things in the game achieving the same goal.

its like saying why is there iron weapons in skyrim when I will find a steel one in like 10 minutes.

its just part of the world, and yes you are meant to feel like you are making everything by hand.

the devs do want to move away from the crafting grid and make a more organic way to do a lot of mechanics but for the time being this is the way the mechanics work.

knapping isnt tedious, neither is claymaking, hell even smithing is, its just time consuming

its not padding its MEANT TO TAKE TIME.

The game is not for you. but thankfully you can always mod it to make it more like babycraft, hell you could just play in creative mode.

the game is SO custimizable theres no reason for you to not enjoy it besides being contrarian or the game once again being

not. for. you.

>why is there iron weapons in skyrim when I will find a steel one in like 10 minutes
ai level scaling/progression. the player will obviously use the highest damage weapon he can come across but it'd be stupid as fuck for NPCs to go from iron swords to glass swords. steel swords contribute to the difficulty curve
>knapping isnt tedious, neither is claymaking, hell even smithing is, its just time consuming
>its not padding its MEANT TO TAKE TIME.
making this take a long time quite literally IS padding. look at any factorio modpack or popular mod collection
all those modpacks do is make you sift your raw ores through a sifting machine to get rid of excess crap that the modpack adds in OR it makes you pipe water through a filtration machine so that boilers take it as input
this adds nothing to the game, all it does is stretch out the time it takes for you to go from coalpowered miners to electric miners
likewise, vintagestory making me go clicky click on tiny boxes to make a knife head is not adding complexity or adding depth, its just extending the time it takes to make tools for no gameplay benefit
if there was a stat difference between autocrafted and handcrafted tools, with handcrafted tools having more durability thus encouraging knapping, that would be actual depth and would give knapping a real purpose

i shouldnt have to mod the game to make it good

Game's good until you have to do the story stuff and didn't know to turn down the distance setting in the options and get the riveting experience of traveling like genuinely 50,000 blocks to get to a dungeon. Same thing when you want to do something involving salt or bees and just wander around for fucking hours.

Also desperately needs some more enemy variety.

I wish we were the trader. Packing up your cured skins and pottery and making the long trip to the far away town that's in need of new pots sounds like an awesome gameplay goal. The current trade system of some guy wanting 37 pinecones or whatever is Lame. Trading should be impractful and should be a way to do some progression without mining for six hours.

I bought this to play with a friend but it has completely stolen my attention that I had for anything else. I ended up starting a solo world and just chill there whenever I have free time. It's just so relaxing to see the slow and steady progress, having a fired clay kiln, a coal pit going etc. Makes me wish I was a kid again to have the time to really dive into this for ages. Do you guys play with longer seasons and adjust your rates accordingly? I wanted to go full autismo on this but because of my lack of free time I just kept the default survival settings, I did enable landslides though, had to retroactively change tool durability to 125% once I realized what that entailed the first time I tried mining for copper though.

I'm the kind of unemployed that lets me set the skyrim timescale to 1, there is something deeply satisfying about saving your game going to sleep waking up booting the game back up and then resting for the exact amount of time that has actually passed
if the hunger rates and such are equally able to be slowed i imagine having the game run on a server such that time is consistently passing but at a manageable rate would be very fun in an autistic way
especially since you can still harvest resources and build at gaming speed

I played this with a friend until we had to spend hours mining to make bronze, basically stopped playing after that because mining is to tedious.
We went through 2 picks before we hit our first vein, didnt even get a lot out of it and the game constantly forces you to stop mining and go topside.
I just dont get it, the survival part doesnt actually have any real depth and everything else is just mildly more tedious than minecraft.
Maybe it'll be great in a decade with lots of updates but idk man.
