There's actually nothing substantial for this ship. There's nothing for it in Adventure, it's just people going "WOW the two 8 year old siblings of the lead characters are opposite genders and have angel Digimon, they must end up together!". In 02, the joke is that Daisuke is insanely jealous of Takeru for having prior history with Hikari and becomes hypercompetitive and abrasive around him when Hikari is involved, much to Takeru's confusion because they're just friends. It gets to the point where Takeru starts to get annoyed by Daisuke's antics and starts doing things specifically to piss him off, like sending a picture of himself and Hikari in New York. Patamon starts it earlier in the episode where Hikari is stuck in the mechanical city where he starts bragging to Daisuke and V-mon that he and Tailmon become Angemon and Angewomon, the perfect pair. This leads to Daisuke ordering V-mon to become "UltraAngemon".

There is the one scene in the episode that was guest directed by Chiaki J. Konaka, but it's the weird exception and very indicative of a guest director, like how Mamoru Hosoda is the one to come up with any Taichi and Sora stuff.

tri. is bullshit for many, MANY reasons, and has been mostly memory-holed by Toei as a mistake on their part.

Protagonist Digimon from all series recur a lot, but it's the easiest with Agumon, V-mon, and Guilmon since they have traditional lines, though V-mon has a lot of options to work with (Armor Evolution, Jogress, V-Tamer). Agnimon, Shoutmon, and Gumdramon require being reworked a bit because their series have different rules (ie. no sequential stages of evolution). Agnimon is often approximated into an Adult (separating it from the first three Child stages) and Shoutmon into a Child, and then you just have to figure out what to do with their lines.

Agumon (Savers) is somewhat redundant and also a worse design to the original Agumon.
Gammamon and Geckomon are more traditional, but both are fairly new, with Geckomon being brand new.

The difference is that Pokémon generally isn't worth watching, and that's only a general statement, because it has a lot of really good music in Japanese and the voice acting is typically much better than TPCi's nonsense. The only reason to watch Pokémon is for nostalgia, in which case whatever, watch the dub, or if you're a super fan who wants to see all the cross-media synergy over the decades, in which case, you're watching it in Japanese because the English dub drops a shitton of that synergy. The only recurring vocal music for English dub Pokémon is the first opening theme, while Japan has a lot. Type: Wild, the ending theme from the Orange Islands, is used in many important scenes going forward, and is even the song used to end the whole series with Ash running off into the sunset.

But Digimon's story actually matters a bit more than Pokémon's, not to mention the music. Ai Maeda (aka AiM, who voiced Mimi in Adventure) does all the ending themes for all the TV anime and movies up through Savers and even in Kizuna. Kouji Wada did most of the opening themes. Insert songs are handled by a recurring set of people, like Ayumi Miyazaki.

But once again, if you only care about nostalgia, why put any effort into watching anything. Do a YouTube stream of a shitty 90s English dub and then speak authoritatively about something you watched with beer goggles.

It isn't the same argument, Sub Apocalymon points out the unfairness that all the Digimon who fail to digivolve experience. It's an actual contrast to the chosen children who had people to prop them up and help them along the way, while Apocalymon is a collective made from all those Digimon who were helpless victims left to rot alone in the far reaches of the digital world hating themselves and the world that abandoned them. There are no 90s pop culture references, the closest you might get are some characters getting little references to other roles their voice actors have done (this is mostly done in the drama CDs for comedic effect like in the first Adventure one where Taichi becomes Ikkyu from Ikkyu-san to cross a bridge by using Japanese wordplay since Toshiko Fujita voiced both characters). Adventure has this problem. The beginning and ending (or rather 02's ending) were planned out, but each arc was written from arc to arc. It wasn't even set in stone that the movie was in the same continuity as the TV series or that Taichi even had a sister, he could have been like V-Tamer Taichi. They did say at one point they wanted a Taichi for each medium as a protagonist, from manga to TV anime to movie to games for synergy. It was only as they progressed that they decided to incorporate the first movie into the story and introduce Hikari.

But this is just Adventure's carrot-on-a-stick writing. Later it starts being "This was the cause of the distortions!" over and over, from the Dark Masters to Apocalymon to whatever it was that made them give up their crests to reinforce a seal. None of it existed until the story needed to introduce it to facilitate things.

Apocalymon is thematically fine as a final boss for Adventure, it's a good idea. But narratively it's just tacked on and done with so quickly that there isn't time to process it or really enjoy the character like you might enjoy Devimon, Etemon, Vamdemon, or Piemon.

02 is messy and obviously not as good as Adventure, but I liked that whole final cour (unfortunately Qinglongmon is the terrible exposition dump of 02 like Homeostasis was during the Dark Masters arc, and BlackWarGreymon's conclusion is handled poorly even if the character writing between him and Agumon, V-mon, and Wormmon is great). I like a lot of the themes 02 was going for with teamwork and worldwide unity as Digimon goes global (Bandai was really proud of this and had been incorporating it since episode 14/the third movie), the Christmas arc was a fun time too. BelialVamdemon is a dumb (yet memorably cruel) villain though, it could have been literally anything else, but that's par for the course going by Apocalymon.

To be fair the entire anime they were at eachothers throats. Their crests/virtues are at odds with eachother.
Taichi's Courage makes him expect the same kind of bravery from his team, borders on arrogance and regularly gets them in danger.
Yamato's friendship makes him act sorta cowardly and distant because he doesn't know how to approach and be friends and he tries too hard to protect everyone, leading to friction with Takeru who starts looking up to Taichi like an older brother, making Yamato feel inadequate.
Cherrymon didn't need to say much to make him turn, but it happened at a pretty awful time.

My issue is that Yamato knows what Jyureimon is trying to do from the start, he's not going to listen, Gabumon even tells him not to listen, and then we watch Jyureimon keep at it for 5 minutes until Yamato decides "Okay I will do what the tree says". Yamato obviously had issues, there's a common theme about his obsession with protecting Takeru leading to friction with his friends. When he and Taichi get separated from the others early on, it's Yamato who needlessly breaks into hysteria and physical violence over Taichi trying to look at things rationally and safely. Yamato is the bleeding heart who keeps to himself. He gets more and more upset at Joe's seeming incompetence at the diner leading to him being kept from Takeru too. He's also the only character who understands it's best to just let Sora cry about her mother and get her feelings out.

It's in line with his character, but I think that for Jyureimon to have worked, it shouldn't have been introduced right then with Yamato immediately skeptical if they were just going to throw it all away. The idea is fine, the execution is only adequate. Like imagine if Yamato wasn't skeptical of Jyureimon, and he was a character he kept walking past and occasionally making conversation with, planting seeds of doubt. Instead it's just all done in one scene. Even if Yamato is in a bad space, it feels off.

Jyureimon didn't really instigate Yamato to confront Taichi, it was more that Yamato had finally reached a breaking point with his world view and decided it was finally time to settle up with Taichi once and for all. Jyureimon knew the plan was never going to actually work, even warning Pinocchiomon about it. tri. has many, many incompatibilities because it wasn't made by any of the original staff, but there are smaller things throughout the rest. Kakudou, the showrunner, wasn't involved in any movies, but he worked to try and incorporate their elements into the TV series like Hikari and Omegamon, or even Taichi and Sora seeming to have a thing of sorts. But even the TV series has little inconsistencies like Sora's hat either being hard like a helmet or something she can bunch up. Kizuna was made by a good amount of original staff, and things do make sense even with new plot developments. Kakudou walked out on it because he had a different idea of where all the characters were in 2010 in his background lore.

There is always some sort of causal connection, even if it's something like "armored animal can evolve into a tank" but those are fringe evolutions to keep you from needing a hundred different baby digimon to get grown up digimon you actually want anyways. Back in the day Japanese studios sold anime broadcast licensing for free. Countries all over the world, including Mexico, bought them and then got translators and voice actors all of which did their best job to translate all that because they actually like their jobs.

Americans, being a bunch of egocentric assholes, refused to license anime because "'murrica number one" so they pushed He-Man and Ninja Turtles instead. The Susanomon in the Shambala lore probably isn't actually related to the Legendary Warrior Spirits. Or if it is they probably just work for him or something instead of being components of him. I don't think its entry in the DRB mentions them at all. It's probably just not something to worry about, like Omegamon being a Royal Knight itself while Imperialdramon PM as a separate entity founded the Royal Knights.

I find the whole Adventure jerk off era of Digimon anime baffling, like okay tri fits in with bringing back 15-20 year old anime to market to nostalgic adults with money, a tested strategy if you don't fuck it up instead of doubling down on shit, but who the FUCK thought a new kids anime using the name and character designs from 20 years ago that has nothing else even related to the sequels being made at the same time made any sense?

They needed the Adventure cast so that they could do Our War Game 4 fucking times because it's what people remember and what gets people excited. It sounds and looks really embarrassing when you step back and look at the show as a whole, but shilling Omegamon and Our War Game right off the bat was probably the smartest thing they could have done if they wanted to reignite excitement for the franchise.
