Elden Ring PvP was so cancer it makes me question whether I should even bother with the new soulslike Fromsoft is cooking up. I loved Elden Ring a lot, but I could just never fucking bother after a single run. Every invasion being extremely 1 sided is one thing, but add to that spam jump attacks, a wide ass field with very little enemies to help when you need time to recover, 3x your healing, and extremely spammable and retardedly strong weapon arts just made it feel fucking unbearable. Will invaders ever be allowed to have fun again? At least when people were being niggers in ds1-3 you could style on them with some cool tech (or just straight up machinebow them to death in ds3).

The next game should have friendly fire enabled. Let hosts and summons have to actually have some basic form of communication and intelligence to be able to fight bosses and other players together.

The pvp boss idea reused from demons souls is a bit of a flop. Basically combine this idea and extend it to an entire area. Like radahn festival where it’s sort of expected to play as some form of coop.

I am still positive DaS1 would be the best of the games for pvp with a few minor tweaks and adjustments to how it functions. Wearing heavy armor and tanking was a fun alternative way to play that you just don't get at all in later games.

How would you "fix" poise while also keeping a tank playstyle? Poise doesn't matter with toggle escapes and backstabs don't matter once you learn how to deal with them (to be fair, no one expects a casual to do so, but if you want to engage in pvp long term staying blind to all technical mechanics in the game seems dumb).

If you treat DS1 pvp like a fighting game, it suddenly gets very fun. Once you take a stab or riposte it's like getting a hard knockdown in a fighting game. You have to choose the correct wakeup option to beat their okizeme. You can hold shield and walk backwards if they are going for a normal chain stab. You can wakeup reverse roll and then stab them. You can backstab escape and punish them. But then they also have tech they can do to counter your wakeups. It all just becomes mindgames and 50/50s (or maybe 25/25/25/25s) and if you are a good player you aren't getting backstabbed in the first place since you will never swing your weapon in a way that is slow enough for them to punish you or give them the space to do it. More high end pvp fights in DS1 end with random hits or gc/black flame than stabs.

When DS1 players say this it's just code for not needing to know how to play. The way you fix poise while still making the archetype of heavy guys with big weapons feel unique is by having hyperarmour frames tied to weapon animations and then making the armour bolster the effect of that hyperarmour
