Racing games die fast. Its the reason I prioritized the online grind first, I know the only people that will be online in a month's time will be people in legend ranks. Quick Recovery isn't supposed to make you invincible, you play the game basically the same as you would with most other builds, but the lack of item punishment means that you're usually in a better position than you otherwise would be when shit hits the fan at the end. What you're describing applies to literally every build in the game except Silver Surfer.

This is my experience too. Slipstream bounty by itself is great for a single item slot though. If you start the race in the back you will likely have close to 50 rings by the first item box since it seem to give rings for everyone in slipstream range. I'd just rather use drift boost gadgets alongside it to give a better chance of being towards the front where it is a bit less dense when chaos breaks out and no gadget other than lv4 boost will save you.

Someone taking the Radical Highway or Metal Harbor shortcut for example will almost always perform better than people who don't. Or how someone who knows when to let your feet off the gas will not fly into the abyss in Chao Park or come to a stand still in the snow in Blizzard Valley.
