Dragon's Dogma 2
Thinking of buying it. What's wrong with the game? And is the first one better?
Anonymous No.723613793 [Report] >>723614010 >>723616984 >>723626225 >>723628394 >>723628508
dragon's dogma 2 is essentially dragon's dogma 1.8.
Dragon's dogma online was 2.0, 2 is a step back in a ton of ways including amounts of content, variety of enemies, variety of classes, etc.
It's got a new story and looks a little better than 1, but it's largely "More of the first". IF that sounds good to you, go nuts, if it doesn't, don't buy it.
It gets cheap enough now that it's probably worth buying. I had about $20 worth of fun before I started to feel like things got to be a slog. I liked a lot of the concepts in the game, especially the ending, but nothing was done with it, and we now know there won't be a DLC or expansion or anything so it basically just ends in a very unsatisfcatory way that leaves a lot of questions and room for expansion that will never come.

Gameplay wise it's fine, but again just more of the same as the first. Get the first if you have the choice between the two. I think you can find keys for like $5 still.

You're saying like there's barely anything inproved in Dragon's Dogma 2. Isn't there any major features in Dragon's Dogma 2?
Anonymous No.723614101 [Report]
>>723614010
No, not really. Some changes to combat systems (mostly in classes skillsets), some new pawn features that aren't entirely present in actual combat gameplay. A new species to play as but they're like 90% irrelevant besides some mostly unvoiced dialogue by random npcs and questgivers.

This game has one of the most boring quests I've ever seen in a videogame. Exploration is mostly pointless since you can just buy 90% of the gear in the game. Facing a group of goblins every 20 seconds gets old really fast. Many mechanics feel unfinished and rushed (camping, romance, dragonplague etc) you can't fight the big bad dragon at the end of the game it's literally a cutscene/walking segment. The game feels very sluggish in comparison to the first one because they tried really hard to implement physics. it seems like they wanted this game to feel more realistic but half assed all of the new mechanics and just ends up feeling clunky and less fun in comparison to the original. Warrior is 100% better in this one and the finisher moves are cool too I guess

>What's wrong with the game?
Feels unfinished, I won't bother going into detail I just wish they'd worked on it for an extra year. Some in-game locations are hinting at a possible DLC, but since we aren't getting any at this point it's doubly disappointing.
>And is the first one better?
Nevertheless, I liked it better than the first game. The lootbox island expansion was more irritating that fun.

Big monsters are fun to fight at first but there's very few of them.
Every other minute on the trail you get assaulted by trash mobs who are extremely easy and just waste your time.
The concept for the story is cool but the execution is terrible, like they cut out a good chunk in the middle and you skip straight to the finale.

Copy pasted e\groups of enemies spawn in every 15 seconds of walking. I would be amazed if someone tested this and walked in any direction in the game for 30 seconds and didn't encounter a group of goblins or saurians

I want more enemy variety and a lot more bosses, being able to have more than 4 skills set at once without modding, and actually good music that is at least as good as the soundtrack from the first game. And of course a dungeon that puts Bitterblack to shame.
But that ain't happening.

i heard every class now has only 3 abilities instead of 6????

this is the one thing preventing me from taking interest in the game, no way in hell im spending money on something like that when i can just play the original
Anonymous No.723618278 [Report]
>>723618051
we went from 6 to 4, warrior only got 3 in the first game so they did technically benefit.
The tradeoff is that all the weapons have some of the old skills built in to them now, but while they function I still want more buttons.
The 4 skill limit hurts the most on the class that comes with a built in switch weapon button and can use every weapon's skills, but the switch weapon skill takes up one of 4 slots and changing weapon doesnt change what skills you have bound. I had to mod it so that each weapon got its own 3 skills and then it was very fun, but thats when I wished I had more types of bosses to fight.

Dont listen to the first reply he is spewing a lot of horseshit. There’s nothing wrong with dd2 except for the fact that it’s unfinished. The second half of the game is extremely rushed it’s almost inexistent. One moment you think you reached the second half of the until then quite interesting intrigue about the queen regent’s shenanigans, the next you’re fighting the dragon and then game is over.
But what is in the game is extremely high quality and very very fun. If you like games that make you feel like you’re on an adventure, like dd1 or ocarina of time or, dare I say, btow. Gameplay is vastly improved over the first one even though some people will adamantly tell you there’s less skill slots (untrue). Pawns are way smarrter than in the first one and you can be a part of some epic fighting moments. The game is way too easy so one absolute must is to install a difficulty mode like simple difficulty tweaks. That’s the very minimum you need but there are some other cool mods but they’re not a must the game is already excellent vanilla just with a big boost of difficulty via a mod.

I liked both and from what I recall most of the complaints were directed towards performance issues, lack of anything too new from the first game (which didn't help the weak enemy diversity of the first game), and generally less satisfactory story. You also have divisive elements such as the new classes that aimed to be as diverse in focus as possible resulting in some returning classes feeling weaker and some not returning at all, meanwhile other classes benefited a lot from the changes, and the new classes minus 1 are all pretty fun to play. Classes are less flashy than DDO but more flashy than 1. My whole thing with it is that at the end of the day it's still a solid game, shit if this was the first entry in a new IP I could even be excited at this attempt if they were going to support it. But for me seeing the IP hit another game with half-baked but still good ideas is just disappointing. The only time "It's got promise" isn't cope is the first time, and the future of the IP itself is also looking pretty bleak. That said I did love my time playing both games, not sure I'd recommend it but each game had something about that scratched that itch for me.

eh, that seems to be a trend with Capcom IPs
DD1 on release was real rough but DA made it a classic

It's the same with literally every MonHun release iydk. Tri was lambasted by fans, but 3U fixed all that.
4, then 4U
World, then IB.
Rise, then Sunbreak... you get it
You'd think they'd learn their lesson from the previous cycle but they just don't seem to.

I don't think DD2's issues are deep-rooted enough that it can't be rectified with a DLC like DA. Just needs some big, punishing, Ultima Underworld map with a bunch of enemies and like a couple new Vocations and it'll work

I know it's a minor thing but the camping actually annoys me a lot. I like the idea of camping out with your little party, cooking some food like you might get in FF15, chatting with the pawns by the fire.

Thats a good point. Honestly not sure why I had DA level expectations for 2 given capcom's track record but hey it was hard not to have faith, and I think all I cared about was it existed. I agree though, while there's always going to be some people not happy with the class changes and decoupling, I do think the core systems are good enough that a lot of the complaints can be fixed with a proper big DLC, maybe even toss in a DDO BBI style roguelike/low-level mode. Until that gets announced though, I'm keeping my hopes low. Capcom hasn't been exactly been winning favor from anyone lately

If you ever play it again, download the custom difficulty mod and lower enemy general resistance to stagger. Now both of you are able to get BTFO'd into a wall or crawl on all fours. Also, download "No NPC No Enemy" and set the sliders to a higher number, enemies will no longer pop in abruptly and that means you'll have more fights with multiple types if they're nearby.
