I don't support Pajeet spyware.
>update to the latest OS
>not a single compatibility issues
The reason why there's (usually) no compatibility issues is because Windows 11 and Windows 10 aren't fundamentally that different. Windows 11 doesn't change that much (other than adding spyware of course.)
>Why is /v/ afraid to upgrade?
Because there's no reason to upgrade. Everything works for now and probably will keep working for some time.

What's worse, microshit shows no signs of stopping with their aggressive attempts to control MY machine, it gets worse with each new OS version. May I remind you, that they have a wet dream about running a walled garden ecosystem just like Apple, with a whitelist of signed software that the user is allowed to run and shit, which is the main reason why it wants the TPM chip. Anyone with some self-respect will have to stop using that shit eventually, and now is good enough time.

First you don't need to enable the TPM neither Secure Boot to install 11
The TPM store only bitlocker encryption keys so only when you disable or erase it to default settings you lose the means of decrypting your drive unless you have your recovery key saved elsewhere, wich is mandatory when you first encrypt a drive. SO if its turned off initially nothing happens when you turn it on.
Also you should have backups at all times regardless.
Also you use the same language to upgrade it will keep everything, files and programs, only when you try to upgrade using a different language it won't let you keep tour installed programs.
There you go dumb anime poster.

When I'm looking for the system properties menu, I had to stare at this stupid fucking page for a whole minute before I saw the advanced button. And lo and behold, there's the fucking menu I know and love all the way from windows 95/98. Who is this for?? Normies no longer use desktops. Workers and gamers do; both of which know what the fuck they're doing.
If the only real feature your upgrade brings is continued security fixes, stop changing the fucking UI. Stop messing with how shit is categorized and located if you're not going to fundamentally change them. So many fucking hoops. I'd much rather just upgrade to a Windows 10 v2 with shit under the hood fixed than this constant normie slop nobody wants.

there's nothing particularly more consumer friendly with windows than say bazzite.
I'm pretty comfy on CachyOS. Overall as someone who's used only windows machines my Entire life learning linux only took me a couple months. only use like two terminal commands and the rest is mostly GUI Stuff. all games through proton or lutris and the emulators and game engines I use work with no issues. all AMD setup tho I hope the driver situation improves for nvidia bros. A warning tho I did have to tinker quite a bit with settings at the start but only ever the one time for anyone interested in making the switch.

apparently Linuxfags REALLY fucking hate TPM because their distros were being blocked by the TPM originally? lmao that's what you get when every autistic nerd can make their own super special distro and put it on the Internets, there's no way to track all of them.
meanwhile i still haven't enabled my TPM module even though I know what it is since i'm just keep chilling on Win10 for a year. all the benchmarks always said you lose in-game performance on Win11

If you dig hard enough you can find Windows 3.1 context menus. They can't make something completely new because it would break too many things. I agree though. Pick a menu style and just stick with it. Nobody cares that the UI doesn't look "new" with a new update. If you want to impress normies just change the wallpaper with each Windows version. That's enough for them to think the whole thing is shiny and new.
What's the over under on half the people who got windows 11 bitching they have to upgrade to 12 when it inevitably hits?

i mean those are just the steam stats, regular desktop is like 6% iirc without counting chromebooks.
keep in mind gaming on linux is a relatively recent thing with proton and dxvk making the whole thing much better.
the reason why the adaption rate is so low is simply because windows comes pre installed and people are too lazy to change, if they are even aware linux is an option.
>>723643701
I agree actually, which is why I think linuxs best move is to appeal to gamers and court them over first. But the issue is most gamers are tech illiterate and don't want to have to google which version of linux to use. SteamOS is the perfect solution, its right there, owned by the biggest PC gaming storefront. But Valve doesn't want to invest in it and shill it.
If there a 1 button "click here to upgrade your windows build to steamOS" button that copied your data over like browsers do, linux would be like 50%+ overnight. But that would take a ton of work to make a tool like that.

Exactly, that's why all of those linux machines never have a GUI and it's just a terminal and if they ever want to interact with it, you have a web console that you access from Windows or Mac, nobody boots up their linux machine to remote into a linux server.
>>723644467
I think the solution is not just the Steam OS switch, but also simplifying the ability to dual boot. Which is even harder but it's the only way to get normies on board. Imagine a Steam OS frontend that launches whenever you turn on your computer, it can run MOST things people will use daily just fine (all games, ""gamer"" related stuff like discord or streaming software, a web browser, maybe PDF software or some other common things) then when you need a specific windows thing you can restart and easily on boot go back into windows. All facilitated with an "upgrade now" button on Steam.

Everything just works. Steam has proton so you don't even need to install it separately. Some games run even better than on windows because the lack of bloat and I'm using nvidia, the shittier option (from AMD)

NTA but I've used desktop distros multiple times, in fact, I use it for various server applications just fine. Every DE sucks ass for the most part, at least compared to Windows. There's no good reason that the DEs should be so far behind in usability at this point - I think it's just a symptom of developer resources being so scarce and spread between so many different projects + lack of demand from the average user. When the mindset of every linux user/developer is "why not just use the command line for that?", it's easy to see why it will never truly become user-friendly. The CLI is not an intuitive interface, it's essentially like needing to learn a language to use something that we've been using for decades that just werks. It's not worth the investment.

The idea is you get them into Steam OS by assuring them their windows partition is safe and they still have all their programs. Then once inside Steam OS 90% of users will realize all they ever use is perfectly viable in Linux so they just end up never booting into Windows, maybe eventually deleting that partition entirely.

Faggot Redditers (you) don't know that in order to play games you need to install runtimes.
The original comment was about converting to IoT, which would include the runtimes from a standard Windows installation.
You only need to manually install them if you clean install IoT, and even then it's not like it's hard to run an executable you downloaded from Microsoft.
You are legit retarded.

Actually, even bots from back in the day would talk shit or say random things to give the illusion of playing real people.

nigger we had oblivion tier scripts. They were shit, but the gameplay and in-game cutscenes made up for that. Not to mention THE GAMEPLAY
>vast majority of players make no attempt to actually communicate with the other players in any meaningful way
that's because we either had splitscreen or we did backseat couch gaming. Imagine tolerating groomercord as a viable communication. At least teamspeak and skype solved some of it.........but it was shit
most of the games were single player due TO the dial up internet
Realistically how long can you stay on w10 before it becomes unsafe and programs start losing support. Since steam cut support for w7 a while back

>Will Windows Defender stop working?
No, but it will stop getting updates, which makes it less and less effective as time goes on.
>What happens if we don't get updates to Windows 10?
Nothing really, it will still work, same as always.

I upgraded last week.
I haaaate the dynamic sizing of the taskbar more than anything else. It's such a minor nuisance that's pissed me off so much. Something's always moving around in my peripheral vision, it's so distracting.
Can't change it, don't want third party apps to fix it.
Who even decides on this stuff anymore? I refuse to believe this was an active decision that people thought properly about.

IDK my Windows 11 has been trying to run an update since the 14-15th(?) of October and it just keeps failing over and over.
>Something went wrong.
>You don't need to worry.
>Reverting changes.
Then it loops like that. Every day nowAt this point I don't know if I can ever get another update (which was the only reason to upgrade in the first place...)

I was using Windows 11 since shortly after it came out. I've used software such as NTLite to take out the telemetry and bloat.
At the end of the day, I don't like Microsoft and the direction they're taking Windows. The push for AI plus more invasive spyware practices was the last straw for me.
I'm on Linux now, CatchyOS, an Arch fork. My main game, Black Desert runs better than it on Windows. Linux isn't for everybody, but there are good alternatives to Windows if you're willing to try.

I hit my old computer which used to run Windows 10 with "systemd-analyze has-tpm2" and it returned that there is no firmware or driver for it on the system. ASRock kinda short changing me by not including TPM2, there's only a TPM2 header somewhere on the board and you'd have to buy a separate chip for it.
So it turns out I could have never updateted to Windows 11 on that PC, if it was still running Windows 10.
I'm still using it to play some games so it's not shit enough that it has to end up on an e-waste pile quite yet.
