It's all about making sure you're in an iframe state between specific moves or strings chosen to mutilate enemies as quickly as possible. For anyone playing NG2 and struggling with the dual pterodactyl fight, unless you want to intentionally give yourself a harder challenge for the fun of it, you can kill all of the gargoyle minions, except for one. That one will prevent more from spawning, which takes the pressure off. You can also use the essence from the ones you've killed for immediate charged arrows for the pterodactyls.

wind run Y for a flying swallow style grab that will keep you invulnerable and let you buffer your next string starting with X without absorbing essence while the animation plays
forward Y (hold to grab, invulnerable), Y again to launch, XY
air XY is always great, using after an air shuriken puts you at a good height for grounded small enemies, or just wind run XY
running X is an insta delimb too, inputting as forward+X after a wind path will instantly give you the move, as usual, and allow you to use it without absorbing essence
both of its UTs are excellent too, regular UT is super fast and doesn't give enemies time to shower you in explosive projectiles, 360 UT is slow but kills enemies all around you
YYY is a good combo too with a nice large hitbox, also a good option after the flying swallow grab

In NG2 I use a lot of them, change depending on the encounter or situation. DS is great to deal with fish coming out of chests, but it's ass for that one stage with a ton of fish coming your way after the church or whatever the fuck it was. For that spamming Y with Lunar until they stop coming was the play for me.
Overall my favorite weapons to use are DS, Tonfa, Scythe and Flails in that game. But for RE and 1 I'm pretty much DS main.

Yes, I feel that certain weapons are best against certain enemy types. DS for humans. Lunar Staff for cat fiends. Flails for ghost fish. Dabilahro for chunky enemies and for sniping niggas with the UT. In NG2, the Talons and scythe are really good at delimbing, that I can tell even though I haven't beaten vanilla NG2, moreso than the DS which makes them good against enemies you can't juggle. I have finished Black 2, and I can see why people don't like the gameplay changes of that. The utility of certain weapons and deffo worse in Black 2 compared to vanilla.

You mash katana strings into punches and the flail that replace heavy strikes and stars respectively. Yaiba has a grappling hook on RT that lets you grab the basic zombie mooks and this makes your triangle and circle buttons swing said zombie around like a bludgeon against tougher foes or more mooks. LT is a instakill on wounded enemies. The basic zombies and enemies are pretty brainless so I guess that's why it gets compared to DW but honestly it feels more like a scaled down senran kagura with a shoestringe budget even compared to those games. Clicking both sticks burns your meter to enter a powered up mode that lets you delete the more blockspam tanky foes. I only played for a few hours last night but I guess I was having mindless fun. Platforming is just bouncing off yellow paint and feels jank and bad. Lack of a free camera sucks but I like the stylization in visuals and the color palette. Yaiba himself as a character kinda reminds me of Bad Man from TSA.

It's to easy to spot tourists. NO ONE ever said ng2 has good level design. It's widely agreed it has the best gameplay. Ngb is the one with good level design and good gameplay, thus the best in the series because it has very good from BOTH. NG2 has just a little better combat, but the level design is atrocious.

I can't quite speak on how similar it looks to prior NG games in any in depth capacity, but compared to other games of its genre it definitely looks a lot more like prior NG games. I finished it on CEMU 2.6, it's unfortunately not very good. Tons of broken textures, you'll have to switch between Vulkan for performance and OpenGL to go through 3 or so sections that keep crashing on Vulkan, but OpenGL looks completely broken. The game itself is worth playing, and I kind of doubt the emulation team will put any effort into making it perfect, so there's that, but it's not really real hardware tier.
The fact that I still went through the whole game on the highest difficulty in this setup still says a lot, it's a great game if you're the kind of player it speaks to.

Ninja Gaiden will never ever be a huge seller. There are a few reasons for this. For 1 I think its because of its reputation as a super difficult action game. It also doesn't play like Souls so that alone is going to drastically drop interest. Then the series never really had any sort of amazing storytelling although I think that NG1's story was far better than people give it credit for. Not a top 10 story in all of gaming but its actually quite good.

There is also the case of the action genre simply never being a huge seller. For some reason this genre never resonated with people outside of a few exceptions like the GOW games and I guess DMC5 which sold about 10 million over all this time. Probably largely thanks to fans wanting to prove Capcom wrong but also it was marketed very well. Also past the first game its never had extremely impressive graphics. They are good but nothing outstanding.

Just my take on why the games will never sell those AAA numbers many devs hope for.

The accessiblity and QoL features will definitely help in NG4's case, stuff like training mode goes a long way to make people understand what makes these games fun.

I think the problem with Ninja Gaiden though is that the combat really is the whole appeal, and for casual players thats not enough. They need other elements like a story to get invested in, RPG elements, open world exploration etc. It's the same problem Stealth games have, only diehards care about "pure" experiences, while casuals would rather just have a bit of everything

There's actually a blog post on their site from a few days ago about the steps they had to take to target 120FPS on a PS5, they built an automated system that mass-baked all of the permuted level geometries into larger meshes for draw call optimization.

In ng2 only. Tonfas are fucking blenders, Claws and Scythe shit on bosses and Lunar pisses on the annoying fucking dogs. In ng3re, when I even play as Ryu I do stick to the DS, some of those hold y strings that let you wallsplat mooks into piles of meat are pretty fun. Haven't played ngb/sigma in a while though, I think I stuck to the DS there as well, but I do remember pulling out the flails from time to time.
